I've been an NPN member for several years, but recently moved to Nashville from Texas at the beginning of September. I'm planning a fall color trip Oct 17-21. My original plan was to focus my time on the Greenbriar area of GSMNP and possibly the Little River / Middle Prong area. However, from the reports that I have seen on the GSMNP website I may be about a week early for those areas. I'm considering the Unaka Mountain area as another option.
I'm wondering if anyone has any first hand reports of the color in these areas or suggestions for other options that might have good color displays during this time frame. I'm a little concerned about high winds in the forecast with the latest storm system as well.
Brian, not sure if you made your trip, but I was at GSMP this past weekend. Colors are not at peak. Even at some of the higher elevations there is not a lot of color yet.
Thanks for your reply, Michael. I was in GSMNP this past weekend and found the same thing. There was still a lot to enjoy once you got away from the crowds.
Agreed, plenty to do at the Park. I happen to live in Nashville myself, having moved here last year from Salt Lake. The colors are improving every day and looking forward to see what comes about in the next couple of weeks.
