I'm going on vacation in a couple of days, destination Oregon. I'd like to spend a few days exploring the Columbia river gorge then head to the coast with Cannon Beach probably serving as a base. I've been considering taking a side trip through the Palouse area on my way down as it isn't too far off course and perhaps spend a couple of days there before moving on. Was wondering if it is worth while at this time of year for photography or would I be better off devoting my time to the aforementioned destinations?

Carey,

This time of year is not the best time for photography in the Palouse as the fields are going to be mostly brown stubble, although you could certainly spend time photographing the old barns in the area, and make a stop at Palouse Falls.

I do think, however, you'd be better off spending time in the Gorge and on the coast, and perhaps other parts of Oregon. You're likely to find some great fall color in the Pacific Northwest now, so you might want to add Silver Falls State Park to your itinerary. The Japanese Garden in Portland is spectacular at this time of year, but there are some restrictions on tripod use, so check their website before you go.

Thanks for the tips Greg . I think at best if I am making good time then I might do a quick fly by just to get a feel for the area for future travels but I won't be booking any stays there. I'll check out those locations you mentioned :toast:
