Thank you for your contributions and service to NPN, Gary. I hope this does not mean you are leaving NPN but, if you are, best of luck.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes.
After the turmoil we went through in the past year, I have kind loss interest in photography. I have been out with the camera less and less and have not been making any 'creative' images for quite some time. On my recent trip to London, I went out with my camera everyday and in the end I realized that my passion for this activity is no longer there. I also visited the Wildlife Photographer exhibition at the National History Museum (hoping to find my Muse) and whilst I enjoyed seeing all the lovely images and were inspired by some, it did not ignite any creativity in me. Therefore it was with some reluctance that I decided to resign as moderator. I am hoping that this dispassion will pass and I will find my Muse in future as some members here have reassured me that I will.
In the meantime, I will still be continuing with my radiology work and The Mystical Garden Project. We are currently working on a pre-Christmas exhibition to raise fund for a children charity.
NPN is a great site and I have learnt a lot from all the members here who have generously shared their expertise. I am not leaving NPN but will be lurking in the background. Might even do a few post now and then

Gary ,I can only speak from the heart in that I know how it feels for the spark to go out of your art. With all the health and life issues I have been dealing with for the past few years I lost my love for photography as well. But I can add that the thing we need most in our lives when we have times of overwhelming stress and hardness is the time we probably need our art the most. I have struggled to find my passion for photography again as well. But I also know on the days I pick up my camera are my most zen and happiest. It does not matter if I even take a single photo ,it is being in the moment and seeing I feel is the best part ,and as long as there is a spark there can be a fire again. I had a lot of fun with my camera this past summer but I was doing more conceptual art more than nature.Everyday I am learning to fall in love with my camera again. You just need time to step back and rest for awhile and when you come back to it your work will be the greater for it. Good luck on your journey. Your images are just too beautiful and special to fade away for long .

Gary …thanks for your creative contributions and work as moderator. You’ve been setting a high bar on the creative edge. Perhaps a break is necessary. Motivation in my photography has been a combination of three factors, three legs in the stool…each has to contribute for my continued interest: (1) Child-like joy that I might ‘find’ something beautiful. Like going on a beach filled with gravel and hoping / expecting to find an agate. (2) Personal quest for Creativity: Excitement to try something … answering the question, “What beauty do I see in my mind’s eye that I hope to capture in the camera (3) Fun with others…going out with others on photo shoots who have talent and share in the excitement. Going outdoors, overnight camping or out to the cabin in the wilderness…etc…and sharing the experience w/others. Without these, I find it easy to crumble into ‘blah-ness’. Hope you find some fun in your photography! If ever in the Seattle …drop me a line and we can go shoot together at a few local gardens and/or Mt Rainier! Ken Smith
