I just read an article in the November issue of "Outdoor Photographer" about the photo opportunities in the fly over states of the mid-west by Tom Till. So many times we are in such a hurry to get to the mountains or the ocean, the northeast or southwest or the iconic national parks that we drive right past some great photo opportunities. Tom made a good point in the article that no one will probably write the definitive book on photographing Nebraska or Iowa or most any of the other states of the mid-west, so you have to stop and discover the beauty for yourself. I have enjoyed some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets I have ever seen and not had to fight for a place to sit up my tripod. I went to a photo workshop in the Tetons the end of October and one morning at Schwabacher's landing there were 100 cars in the parking area. The beauty and vistas here are not the knock your socks off vistas of Glacier National Park, but the they are there. You have the stop and listen and let nature speak to you. The prairies are beautiful to listen to if you take time to listen. Thank you for letting voice a burden of my heart and giving me a forum to do it.

I've been lucky enough to hear a couple of your bird photographer stars speak here in Fairbanks. Most recently Michael Forsberg. They have all been passionate, tireless advocates for the beauty of the Great Plains. It's a long ways from where I live, but I really am going to get there some day.

Richard, very valid points on the areas mentioned. Although I've not read the article yet, I did notice that at least 4 previous NPN members made this recent OP Mag.....Congrats to all those folks......

Unfortunately, I have come to appreciate the beauty of Kansas, long after leaving the state. There are several NPN members who's photos have brought back memories of my home state. It was a good article.

If you are a pilot, they are all fly over states! Some quite stunning aerials have been made of this part of the world.
