Hi fellow NPN'ers! Just wanted to share some GREAT news we received this week!
My son Josiah was just named the 2014 Young Outdoor Photographer of the Year!
This competition does something a bit different than most others we have been part of, and finalists are able to see all the other shortlisted images in their category. As Josiah, Jenaya and I were finalists and could access those galleries, I can tell you the quality of the majority of images were nothing short of spectacular (which is to be expected of a competition of this size). I can also tell you there are some MIGHTY talented young nature photographers out there...the under-18 category was filled with outstanding images.
And we posted an announcement piece with a link to Josiah's bio (the bio page includes a shout-out to NPN) on our home page here
Thanks for letting me succumb to proud-dad syndrome (again) and letting me share!

Wow, super congratulations to Josiah. It is such a relief to know that not all young people are focused on taking selfies!

Congrats to you and your entire family, John. You must be a proud dad!
In looking at the category winners from the link you posted, it always kind of irks me that photographers are pretty much required to describe every little detail, crop, piece of equipment, and workflow of the process that creates their contest entry instead of just having the artwork stand on its own. Just a personal pet peeve...

Congratulations, Josiah. While it appears that many of your peers are constantly texting, and little else, you are enjoying nature and sharing it with us. Great job.

Wow, this is downright impressive. I subscribe to this magazine due to the quality of the stuff it publishes. This is a big time competition. You're justifiably proud, John. And Josiah, you must be pretty happy to beat out your big sister. Yours truly was the best image. Congratulations!!!!
Thank you so much everyone! I was so happy that I won the contest, but could hardly believe it when they told me last week! I am really excited! Thank you for helping me become a better photographer.
