I just received my lens back from Canon service, but they returned it without the original box. Can someone share their experiences with Canon service as far as returning the original box?
I called and spoke with a phone rep. She tried to convince me that Cannon service normally recycles the box and does not ship it back to the owner with the repaired lens.
I followed the instructions to the letter. Nowhere does it state that the original box will be discarded.
Per their instructions I used FedEx at large expense. We placed the lens in the original box, wrapped in bubble wrap then into the larger shipping box.
The Canon documentation that was returned with the lens states:
Accessories Received: Box, Front Lens Cap, Rear Lens Cap.
I would like the box for resale. I am under the impression that I’ll take hit if I do not have the box.
Can anybody share their experiences? Has Canon returned the original box?
Thanks in advance.

Richard, I've shipped both bodies and lenses to Canon (the Newport News, VA facility) in their original boxes and gotten the boxes back every time. In all cases, I put the Canon boxes inside another box for the shipping.
I figured as much. Always good to have confirmation from the gang at NPN.

Same here. Original boxes returned. Maybe Canon has a new policy.

I have never used Canon repair, but I think you are right about saving the boxes for resale. Buyers seem to value the fact the equipment is shipping in its original packaging. Like it makes it seem newer?? Heck if I know, but I always save mine for resale purposes.
Harley, agreed. Even though It’s just a silly box I think some folks somehow equate a seller having the box to the seller taking better care of the item. Not sure why, but even I would fall into that category.
Other than that, the box is good for collecting dust and shipping.
