Hello all.... My name is Mike and my wife and I relocated from Indiana to Battle Ground, WA early last year (job transfer). With the busyness of move I didn't get out to photograph much last year but I hope to make 2015 different. I've read Greg Vaughn's books pretty much cover to cover which has been a huge help. I'm most interested in interacting with other PNW photographers and hearing about current conditions and photo ops around Oregon and Washington.
Welcome Mike! It's great to have you join our beautiful corner of the world!
The conditions right now are very unusual. There's very little snow in the mountains and much warmer than normal. It may prove to be a long wild flower season since spring seams to be on us already, So many plants are in bloom so early. I haven't gotten out much myself so I'll let others talk about their photo experiences so far.
Hello Mike and welcome to the PNWNP. I agree with what Steve said. It has been an unusual and warm winter, especially last month and going onto this month. Lots of flowers/blooms are early this year and hopefully we don't get a late snow or hard freeze and lose the ones that are not showing yet. Greg Vaughn's books are excellent choices for finding places for photo opportunities. Looking forward to meeting you someday soon and post some of your shots.
I took advantage of the beautiful weather this past weekend to head up to Mirror Lake at Mt. Hood. The conditions didn't turn out as I was hoping (high winds and clear skies) but it was a great morning none the less.

Welcome to the PNW, Mike. Battle Ground is a great location for easy and quick access to some of the best of both Oregon and Washington. The weather is indeed unusual this year, with wildflowers and blossoming trees already showing bits of color in the western regions of the northwest.
I hope this forum continues to be a great place for sharing information about current conditions - it was a great resource for me when I was working on the books. Another good resource is Sandy Steinman's "Natural History Wanderings" blog. Sandy does a roundup of conditions and reports from many sources. http://naturalhistorywanderings.com/.

Again, Welcome to PNWNP!
