Sandy, I can easily see this happening as I've witnessed this in nature myself. I was out on a dirt road in Death Valley about 10 years ago. A very remote area and as always scouting for photo ops. I stopped for a mid day break and began to eat a PBJ, a staple for me when out and about, when a raven appeared about 25 feet away on the ground.
As I was eating I noticed he was hopping a bit closer over time. When all of a sudden he found a fairly shiny red rock amongst the millions laying around the area. He proceeded to toss the rock toward me with each hop. At first I had no idea what he was doing or had planned. Then it dawned on me, he was a PBJ fan too. As he got within 5 feet he threw the rock at my feet. Although I was not going to give him any of the "glue" like the actual PBJ ingredients, I did give him a good chunk of whole wheat bread.
He must have felt it was a fair trade as once he ate the bread off he flew leaving me the shiny red rock.
