We've read everything that's been posted, including the most recent replies posted today. The next step to move forward is to combine the forums into one single group with one forum, one member list, one events page, etc. We have no doubt that there will tweaks needed as we move forward, but step 1 is beginning the move forward. The actual merging of forums will take place within the next several days.

A lot of good names have been suggested. We've distilled it down to a manageable list for voting, selecting names that have popular support here, that are descriptive of the region and that would meet the other marketing needs of the group.

Please list your top 3 in order of preference. First selections get 3 points, second gets 2 points, third gets 1 point. At the end of the voting, we'll add up the points and highest point total is it.

If you'd like to post your vote here, please do. If you'd like to e-mail it to me, that's fine as well. With the long holiday weekend coming up and people heading out of town, we'll keep the voting open until Tuesday the 30th at 7pm mountain time.

We'd like to thank everyone who voiced their thoughts whether here or via e-mail, whether in favor of or against the merge.

The list of names:
American West Nature Photographers
Continental Divide Nature Photographers
Mountain States Nature Photographers
Mountain West Nature Photographers
Rocky Mountain Nature Photographers
Rocky Mountain States Nature Photographers

3) Mountain West Nature Photographers

I'm just wondering who will be the first wise guy to cast all his votes for "Colorado Nature Photographers".

1) American West
2) Mountain West
3) Continental Divide

Rockies definitely has a more north/central connotation, and vast tracts of the southwest exist outside the Rockies.

2. American West Nature Photographers
3. Rocky Mountain Nature Photographers (Although I don't believe there are any official Rocky Mountains in Arizona).

Posted by Erik Stensland on May 26, 2006 at 8:25 AM

1 - Rocky Mountain Nature Photographers (Personal Favorite)
2 - American West Nature Photographers (Most appropriate for region)
3 - Continental Divide Nature Photographers

As Brian stated above, there is a good portion of this region that is defined more by desert than Rocky Mountains. I hope any "mountain choices" won't convey that this area is not covered.

My problem with American West Nature Photographers is that when I hear it I think of California/Pac NW too. I think it may confuse.

What, you guys think that you have the only mountains in the US? Hell, ours were ancient when the Rockies were being formed! So, Mountain States should be removed from the list unless you guys are going to merge with, well maybe SENP, and since all of us are here in the southern Appalachians.

Posted by Guy Tal on May 30, 2006 at 8:44 AM

Jerry, how about we change it to "Spry, Young, Tall Mountain States" and you can hook up with the other Appalachians to form the "Ancient Geezer Mountain States"?
