Yes, I know I should know this area better, but I just dont get out to that coastal location very often. Was looking for a little direction on any good shooting locations in that general area, or within a hours drive or so.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There's a wonderful state park at the Cape Disappointment, at the southernmost point of the Pacific coast in Washington. There's also a lot of preserved area at the north end of the Long Beach Peninsula, it's state park, all continguous, with shoreline on both the bay and the ocean sides of the peninsula. And there's a wonderful bakery in Oceanside, don't miss it.

Tom, Not sure what you are looking for but the thing to remember is that the Long beach peninsula is (just) a huge sand bar. There are no rocks or elevation north of cape disappointment. Good for shore birds, sand forms, and dune plants. The little town of Ilwaco has a nice marina with fishing boats and there are two light houses nearby. We plan on camping at Fort Canby in June. :jump:

There are some cool spots north of Moclips/Pacific Beach in Tahola and the forest roads on the rez. Can get kind of sketchy with the locals though. Had a friend get shot at surfing somewhere he shouldn't...

Funny you should mention Westport and Ilwaco, I've done shoots at both places in the past several months. If you're into small fishing villages that live by catching salmon and crab you'll be shooting for days. Ilwaco has more land/sea diversity but Westport has more human action. There's a great surf spot right off of the point on Westport harbor. I breaks right and is very close to shore. You can get great surfing stock. There's great driftwood to shoot and the sand dollars are easy to find. Here's a link to a quick gallery of westport: http://www.esp-mkt.com/westport/westport.html Please note these are unsweetened images and where quickly put together for client review.

You can check out a small gallery of Ilwaco here: http://www.coastalridge.com/gallery.htm I've got a tone more Ilwaco but didn't post it to this gallery.

Their both fun to shoot and visit. In Ilwaco is a shooter who has cased the place pretty good. Check the waterfront galleries and you'll run into his work. i forget his name though.

There's a cool wind shaped tree up and behind the North head lighthouse in Ilwaco. Hike up to the building then hang a hard right when you hit the cliff wall. Hike up and it's right to your right. It makes a cool foreground element for the lighthouse at sunset. Make sure to pay the charge to park your car, the park police are very quick to give out tickets to people.

Have fun!
