We have received emails over the last few days about various difficulties some have had with the site. In large part, I suspect these were issues with trying to "drive the car" while we were "under the hood" fiddling with stuff.
Now that we're mostly done with making changes on-the-run (which could have accounted for some of the reported issues), we would like to start compiling a list of remaining bugs. For example, we cannot edit photos that were posted before the new rich text editor was installed, an issue we just discovered this evening when trying to post the weekly picks. It also appears that scrolling through the photos via the thumbnails using the lightbox does not advance the view counter, so that is another one we have to figure out.
If there are any other issues you are aware of (that still continue now), please feel free to post them in this thread. Thanks!
Hi Jim! Thanks once again for all the extra (and hard) work on this!
Not a bug per se, but I noticed the Preferences...Post...My Topic etc menu bar still has a green background on the FORUMS but has changed to the new colour scheme on the galleries.
Also, being able to advance to the next page of the gallery seems to no longer be an option at the bottom of the thumbnail pages, forcing you to scroll all the way back to the top to advance to page 2...bit of an inconvenience and less user-friendly.
I think I mentioned in a separate email that the email notifications for comments when you subscribed for that are coming in with text formatting code throughout, making it very cumbersome to read.
That is all I noted for now anyway!
Loving the new format!

John, thanks for posting your report!
The Galleries and the Forums run on separate software, but share a common "skin" which is primarily the header and footer graphics. In the forums, the skin is everything above the green menu bar, in the galleries everything above the new menu "box" that includes the gallery name, search box, etc. DtP takes care of everything in between the header and footer graphics/menus, including the green menu bar you mentioned. We plan on making the same updates to the forum software in the next few months, after we recover from our current marathon session in the galleries.
The box at the bottom of the thumbnails that includes the "pagination" function - which is simply a replicated portion of the menu from the top of the page - was causing some major headaches to get it to render correctly. Since the pagination function was really the only useful feature of having the box at the bottom - and we have the same function at the top of the page - I finally decided after hours of DtP's time trying to make it right, to can it all together. Though the pagination function is no longer at the bottom of the page, it cleaned up the page aesthetics nicely. I installed some "Top of Page" links in the footer menu to get back to the pagination at the top with one click. I realize this is less than ideal, but at the moment seems like the best option.
I was not aware of the email notification glitch, which is also a result of the new rich text editor. I will add it to the list for DtP to look into.
My sincere thanks to you and everyone else for your patience while we work the knots out. To read that the updates are being well-received makes the time, effort and capital investment worthwhile!

Editing issue of photos posted prior to rich text editor now resolved.
If you have a bug to report, please let Jim know which browser you are using, and it's version.
Clearly state the steps your were taking when you noticed the issue.
It can sometimes help to completely reload the page. In Windows the command is Ctrl+F5. If the issue persists, please let Jim know.

When I type in a comment, and press the return key to create a new line, the cursor goes to the top of the form.
I'm using Safari on a Mac running OS X 10.10.2

Keith, thanks for the report!
When we first installed the rich text editor there were issues with all browsers. After some bug-swatting this is now what I see from here;
1. With IE 11, there is a small jump of the screen with the first return, but the cursor stays where it should be and the text box remains in view. After that, it behaves normally.
2. With Chrome 41.0 and Firefox 35.0, there are no issues.
The only device I have with Safari is an iPhone 6+, which I will also try.

Keith, on my iPhone using the return key takes the cursor back to the top of the text box. Using the forward > key starts a new paragraph. Also, font sizing is not consistent with Safari where it is with the other browsers.
As has always been the case, Safari fails to render pages 100% correctly/as-intended where all the other popular browsers do. Got Firefox?

Jim:
Sorry, don't have Firefox and have no intention of installing it. Safari works 100% correctly for me on every other website I use, including sites with text input boxes that are very similar (if not the same) as the new one implemented here.
I fully understand the difficulty in web development and supporting multiple browsers is always a challenge. Safari is the native browser shipped with Macs and I've never found a reason to use anything else in my decade of Mac use.

Just commented on Dave Edward's sunrise image using Safari 6.1.6 under OS 10.7.5 and the return key worked as it should.

Keith, you may be short-changing yourself by not giving something else a try, especially Firefox of Chrome. A few links of interest;
I used to be an IE fan because that is what came installed on my PCs. But after trying the alternatives, I'm not such an IE fan anymore. IE has always had its issues (such as freezing) and Safari has had rendering issues for as long as I have been coding web pages. Chrome and Firefox are free downloads (both of which render the NPN site correctly), so what do you have to lose giving them a try?
In the mean time, we'll do our best to keep NPN as cross-browser friendly as possible.

Now Donna can get crackin' on those picks!
In the text entry box I type some text and then press 'Enter'.
The page then 'jumps' down and I have to scroll up to see the text editor again.
This behavior occurs in IE 11 on Windows 7 64 bit.
This behavior does not occur in Fire Fox 37.0.1

I've used Chrome a bit, but prefer Firefox.
So, I agree with Jim that either Firefox or Chrome will be a good bet for anyone, regardless of platform.
