Hi, I keep hearing different ways of setting the preview in save for the web window, some say "Monitor Color" other say "Use document profile". What's the right setting. I've been using "Use the document profile", but lately I've notice that when I look at the converted photo in My Pictures folder it seems to be a bit darker than when I see it in photoshop CS6. Any suggestions. Thank you for your time.

Mine is set for: Internet Standard RGB (No Color Management). With this setting I've never noticed any issues.

Danny,

You're correct that in using "Use document profile". Also, be sure "Embed color profile" is checked. In Windows Explorer>My Pictures, images may not display properly in terms of color and contrast. Personally, I go by what's displayed in Photo Shop, in a color managed browser, or other color managed application. That's really the only way to ascertain if the image looks the way you want it to.

Danny & Preston, here is an item I found on Adobe site. Most all other articles I looked at show "Monitor Color". Not sure in the end as I've not seen any changes using the setting I've used for years. I do convert to "sRGB" and "Embed" in that web save process.
Any thoughts as to why one over the other?.....

Choose one of the following options by using the Save for Web/ & Devices dialog box Preview pop‑up menu

Monitor Color
Makes no adjustments to image gamma. Monitor Color is the default setting.

Legacy Macintosh (No Color Management)
Simulates the default gamma of 1.8 used by Mac OS 10.5 and earlier.

Windows (No Color Management)
Simulates the default gamma of 2.2 used by Windows and Mac OS 10.6 and later.

Use Document Profile
Adjusts the gamma to match any attached document color profile in a color-managed document.

btw: after reviewing the preview window and toggling between Windows (No Color Management) & Use Document Profile I saw no difference. So as always, research continues....

Maybe I'm just being logical, here, Paul and Danny, but it seems to me that one would want to preview a Web-bound image using "Use Document Profile" in Save for the Web.

I flatten and convert to sRGB in PhotoShop before opening the image in Save for the Web. I also ensure "Embed color profile" is checked, and "Optimize' is checked, too.

Danny, in which application(s) on your machine are you seeing the 'darker' images? Are you saying you are viewing thumbnail images in Windows Explorer/My Pictures? If so, I wouldn't trust it for that: It's not color managed. I'd use a color managed app like Adobe Bridge for image management. Personally, I use an application called PhotoSupreme from IDImager Systems for image management.
