Has anyone tried printing on acrylic? I am talking about printing directly onto acrlyic, and not just printing on paper and then framing with acrylic. Verdict? Any recommendation(s) on a printer, what to look for in the printer's acrylic printing process, and mounting? How does it compare to printing on paper/framing with acrylic and/or printing on metal? Thanks.

Scott, I can't speak to printing on acrylic, but I do have several metal prints made in the last three years and they look great and come ready to hang. I don't know if anyone has looked at the longevity of metal prints, so for me that's still a question. Having done some of my own mounting, matting, and framing, the time and money saved with a metal print also looks very good. The fact that metal prints don't come with a standard frame may be a problem for some.
Mark, you say "The fact that metal prints don't come with a standard frame may be a problem for some." One problem is that for the majority of shows and exhibits, as far as I can see, galleries want framed matted prints only, so anything else, such as metal or canvas blocks, is off limits. I consider this a great nuisance. From experience.

Hi Mike,
I had a print of one our Newfs done on Acrylic by Fine Art America for my wife's birthday present. The image is printed on the backside, back painted to prevent light leaks. I could not have done this myself. The image looks very modern without a frame. There is a small wood frame that contains the mounting hardware and holds the acrylic off of the wall..................Jim
