As I was going through a folder, suddenly all the data attached to a thumbnail disappeared-Name, photo number, the symbol for edited, symbol for keyword, etc. Nothing is present in any photo, in any folder. I don't know if I hit a key by mistake, but if anyone knows how to put this information back on the thumbnail I would be quite thankful.

All of that information is stored in the Lightroom catalog. Not sure how or why the info disappeared but you should be able to simply restore one of your catalog backups and everything will be there at least as of that date. This type of insurance is why I backup my catalog every day I use Lightroom.
Good luck!

John,
Thanks for the reply. The information is still attached to the photo as it shows up when I press the space bar to enlarge it and is present in the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen. It is not present in the grid view.

You do NOT need to restore from an old catalog.
In the menu, go to View / View options. Select the grid view choice. Sounds like you had Expanded Cells turned on. Click the checkbox "Show Grid Extras" and choose Expanded Cells from the dropdown list.
