Remove a Photo from Personal Gallery?

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but how do we remove a photo from our personal gallery?

This statement on the Edit Post page is confusing.

Note - this photo will also appear in your Personal Gallery. All photos are automatically deleted after 35 days. If you wish to exclude this photo from automatic deletion, check this box:

Preston, I think we've had this come up in the past and I had trouble figuring things out too. At the time back then if you went to EDIT and unchecked the box it eventually would delete. I did this the other day on an older image of mine and have not checked back to see if it is gone yet. As I recall it took a day or two sometimes, in other cases it was within hours....wink

Anyway, that's about all I can add to the issue......laugh

btw; I just looked and it is now gone using that procedure......devil

Sooo, if I post a photo and leave box unchecked then my photo will be removed from my personal gallery after 35 days?

Is that what the statement implies?

Before the site updates, I had to check the box in order for my photo to escape deletion from my personal gallery. If I unchecked it, my photo would be removed from my gallery at some point in time.

Still confused,

I have unchecked images that I wanted deleted and they still remain for over a year in some cases. It was my understanding that we would be able to delete images from our gallery instantly as part of the new overall redesign of NPN but I have not seen that option yet. Also confused . . .

Preston,

As near as I've seen my gallery operating your comments are all correct. If unchecked it auto deletes after 35 days. If checked it will or should remain for the duration, unless of course you go back into the image and uncheck it at some point. Then it should drop shortly thereafter. I'm assuming that any uncheck of the box still requires meeting the 35 day criteria before the image actually falls out of the Personal Gallery.

EDIT: well now, after Mike's comment I took another look. I do have one image from mid May still not auto deleting after the 35 day trip wire.......so a big DUH!!.....wink

Two things:

1. I looked at images in my personal gallery that were posted before the site updates. In all cases the box is checked. For images posted after the updates, I checked the box for those I want to keep.

Still confused as to how this works.

2. Mike, it was my understanding that images one wanted to delete from their personal gallery could be deleted by unchecking the box, and that the deletion would be immediate. Apparently, this is not the case.

I agree that a "Remove this photo from my Personal Gallery." function should be added.

Preston, are those images beyond the 35 day threshold? Basically, they should delete if you've gone back and unchecked the keep in your PG box as long as it is over the 35 day criteria. However, as I mentioned I have one well over 35 day threshold that NEVER had the box checked originally and it still remains in my PG. At this point I would think there is some PG image deletion glitch.

Paul

No, not recently. I had the "older than 35 days" deletion issue before the updates. Some eventually did delete, but Jim had to manually delete a couple of them.

At this juncture, I don't know what will happen after 35 days. I have one image posted a few days ago that should go away--we'll see.

I'd sure like to hear from Jim on this, as I'm reasonably certain we aren't only who are confused by this.

It's not clear to me how things work.  I have old images in my personal gallery that I unchecked (wanted to remove) that are still there over a year after I unchecked the "keep" box.  I think these were all posted in the POP gallery.  I've unchecked other older images and had them go away.  Under the new system, when I don't check the keep box during posting, they do seem to go away.  I haven't kept track so I don't know if it's 35 days or longer, it's clearly not shorter that 35 days.

Another note, if a photo was selected as a WP it cannot be deleted by the user. Otherwise it should delete after 35 days from the date it was posted.

Jim,
Just letting you know since this topic came up,
The WP aspect is understood and obviously everyone wants more of those images and not have them deleted. But the deletion of unwanted images from my personal gallery is not working properly for some reason and hasn't since I've been a member. Some times unchecked images are deleted and other times they stay in my gallery. I've had you delete several images on one occasion a while back.

An "easy fix" would be to allow the deletion of any photo by a member at any time, regardless of any other factors (WP selection, EPA selection, comments already posted, etc.).  However, once deleted there is no recovery without getting DtP invloved ($$$$).

If everyone is OK with that I think it should be an easy thing to fix.
