Here's an image from my recent outing to Steamboat Lake. Found this nest near the cabins we were staying at in Columbine just north of the Lake.

Darren, No snow at the lake except on the north side of the island and a few snow banks in the shade around Columbine. The Aspen trees were just barely leafing out there (Columbine) but there was a good mix of them around the lake. We had a very pleasant stay but the fish were difficult to catch for us fishing hacks.

Unfortunately I can only post every 72 hrs. Maybe I'll make a little web page of some images from the weekend.

Anyway, let me know what you think, always open to constructive criticism. Thanks!

Some jokes just write themselves...

Yep, I was almost afraid to write it but that's what it says in the bird book. I'm thinkin' about calling it something else.

Maybe you could just call it "Woody"

Nice shot Chuck!

That Hairy Woody is the variety that I've found pecking at the siding on my house numerous times throughout the summer. When approached he does not notice or care that I am there, and has done quite a bit of damage. Hairy Woody = Ballsy Prick!

Hey, just back from a little vacation in Glenwood, Thanks for the comments!
Nat, ya, I much prefer them in the natural setting too!
It's the Flickers that do the most damage on my old log house.
Darren... It takes STEALTH to get those big breeders along the shoreline. I was mainly trying to help the kids fish (that's a good exuse eh?).

Edit: It's actually been confirmed by two more people in the know that the fishing at Steamboat Lake is officially slllooooooow.
I feel better thinking that I'm really not that bad of a fisherman.
