Hello all,

I'm planning on visiting Death Valley within the next weekend (the 19th)  to try to catch some of the wildflower blooms in the park. I know I'm a little late to the game, but is it already past its peak and is it not worth heading up there? Also, would you have some info on where I can find some patches of wildflowers within the park.

Your info is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Sairam

I have some retired friends from an RV community that have been out there for weeks...killing me!  One has been going out there for years and knows the park very well.  I'm heading out there April 14-17 on the back end of a work trip to Vegas.  It'll be my first time there.  My friend said I'll have to hit higher elevations, but she still thought it could be very good there as well once those blooms start.  It's a gamble...but hey...free plane tickets can't be beat.

And thanks for the link Monika!  Helps me plan where I'll be hiking.

Thanks for the link Monika! Very useful indeed :)

Jeff, yes, I'm trying to go next week. Every accomodation imaginable has sold out :-/

I was there all week and departed this morning. The best color we saw was hwy 190 going north out of Furnace Creek maybe 10 miles miles out and ending near the turn off for Beatty NV. Also the Artist Point road had some very good patches. Some of the higher elevations entering the park were good also. Be aware they are doing some spot highway repairs on 190 through out different parts of the park which can cause some delays. devil

Sairam, you can "dispersed camp" as long as you're at least a mile from pavement.  Off the Westside Road, you need to be another mile up any of the canyons.  Million-star accomodations for free!  And easier to motivate for night photography, to boot.  It "fills up" earlier on weekends, meaning you have to drive farther.

I was just looking at the Death Valley website last night and they have a bloom report page.  They are saying the north end of the park has better coverage right now.  High winds a week or so ago took out a lot of the flowers in the bad water area.

have a good trip
