Hello,

I purchased a new large-format printer last winter. This is the Epson SureColor SC-P7000. I have it placed in a room that is separate from my study. My computer (located in the study) and the printer are both connected to the home network. When this was first set up, my computer was able to properly detect the printer (on the network). However, after an automatic Windows 10 update last December the computer is unable to detect the printer's IP address. This is preventing me from sending picture files from the computer to the printer.

I initially wanted to remove the update by using an appropriate Windows restore point. However, there are no clean restore points that I can safely go back to. Bummer, huh? If I reinstall the printer driver, the computer is able to find the printer on the network. However, this again ceases to work if either the computer or the printer is turned off.

Epson claims that this is a Window 10 issue. I tend to agree because I didn't see this problem before the December Windows 10 update. There are also a bunch of such complaints on Microsoft's web-site related to network printing. However, Microsoft has not provided a solution other than suggesting that the printer driver should be reinstalled.

I was wondering if there are folks here who have seen this problem and can offer some workable solution.

Thanks a bunch.

Regards,

Hi Anil,

I was having some issues with Windows Networking under Win 10. During my search for a solution I found this nice series of articles from How-To Geek that covers many of the aspects of networking with Windows: How-To Geek School--Windows Networking .

The series was written for Windows 7 and 8, so the instructions for Windows 8 work for Windows 10.

I hope you can find a solution.

Anil,

I may have had a similar problem with the Epson 3800 driver on windows 10.  While my HP printer installer works fine with windows 10, my Epson installer does not.

I was able to work around the problem but it was complicated.  I set my router so the the printer is given a fixed IP address.  I  used the printer driver to create a network port and I set the IP address for the printer connection to the known static IP for my printer.  I have forgotten the exact procedure, but after much effort, all works fine.  I repeat this procedure for each computer that accesses the Epson printer.

Hi Preston and Mike,

Thanks so much for your replies. As Mike had alluded to, the problem lay with the fact that the router was changing the IP address of the printer (whenever the DHCP lease would expire) and for some reason Windows 10 is unable to locate the printer if its current IP address is not the same as the one it had during driver installation / initial network configuration. Fortunately, my router supports DHCP Reservation, which allows the same IP address to be assigned to a given MAC address. After configuring the router to ensure that the printer always gets the same IP address I am no longer seeing the original problem.

Thanks again!
