Masking problem with Sony SLT A 99V camera

I happened to do an assignment for Sony with SLT A99V DSLR. It had an option for capturing the picture in different aspect ratios and I did some experiments with rectangular frames, which were bit panoramic. Some time later, I accidentally discovered that camera actually used to take full normal capture but mask it and present it in different aspect ratio. I happened to covert many frames in the normal aspect ratio using Bridge or Photoshop, but now I seem to have forgotten the way, I used to do it.

I just wonder if some could help me with that? It would be highly appreciated!
