I hope this is the correct forum for this question. While shooting Birds in flight the will occasionally get off center. I normally use single point focus set on AF-C (continuous tracking) but would like to use more of the focus points for this situation. According to the camera maunal, If I expand the number of points to say 21 then the camera will focus based on information from the surrounding focus points when the subject goes off the single point. The problem is that there is no indication in the view finder as to what it is doing so I'm not sure it is working correctly if at all.
But if I use the AF-C 3D-tracking mode, the manual says that when the subject leaves the single point the camera selects new focus points as required. This I can see in the view finder as the new points will light up red.
Does anyone know which is better to use and if in fact the camera is using the additional points in the straight AF-C mode?
