Digital Projector Qs

Time for me to again display my ignorance of technology and to request advice. Can anyone offer advise on digital image projectors? I am talking about something to use for workshops, lectures to smaller groups (up to 50 people), viewing in a darkened room. I would think that I am looking for something like what smaller camera clubs might use. What should I be looking for in terms of tech requirements, and how much do I need to spend? Are the projectors for sale at Amazon in the $600 range for home theater use (like the one linked below) adequate for the use I have in mind, or do I need to spend a lot more? Finally, does anyone have a particular recommendation on a make, model, or retailer, or even where to go for advice? Thank you.

Scott,

I bought a projector at the first of the year to use at my speaking engagements in order to have the best quality presentation possible. Most of the clubs I speak at including my own club, if they do have an 'In House' projector, it is old and the quality is unacceptable. After speaking at my own club, they asked if I could bring my projector to each monthly meeting because the difference was like night and day versus the halls antiquated equipment. I bought an Epson unit ( see here - http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/Product.do?UseCookie=yes&sku=V11H652020 ) that is full 1080 HD, has built in stereo speakers, has wireless control, has auto focus and the lens adjustment is outstanding and will correct any possible scenario you can imagine to project a perfect image onto the screen. I got mine at Micro Center here in Atlanta - they have 3 locations in Ohio - see more here - http://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/default.aspx .

Hope this helps, a few extra bucks goes a long way is what I discovered in my research before my purchase. A projector is an investment into an asset that you will be using for a long time, you want the quality of that asset to represent your work in the best possible manner. I also had an older travel bag that I converted and by using the packaging materials from the original box, it makes a nice and secure container for the projector to travel in and be protected.

Mike, thanks very much. Very helpful. I certainly like the wireless features making this easy to use on location.

Mike - when I click on your Epson link it says that projector is not available in the US.  Strange, because last I looked georgia was still part of the US.  Would you please re-link your projector - I'm very interested in acquiring one.
