Hi David,
I can certainly see what caught your eye here but I'm afraid this doesn't quite work for me,mainly for a cople of reasons, firstly I feel there is just a little too much sky and IMHO this tends to over-power the flower, particularly as it's just a single specimen set against such a vast backdrop, perhaps trying to capture several flowers together would work better,if this is possible.
Secondly,I feel the excess space would be better being in front of the flower rather than behind.
Hope this may be of some help.
Thanks lads for commenting. It was only an experiment. I was feeling rather pessimistic after
the latest Doom & Gloom Global Warming scenarios put over by the media.
I was trying to produce an ambiguous portrait suggesting either light winning over darkness
or vice-versa, using a hybrid (but not too obvious) flower (depicting mans' manipulation of nature). I had the single flower fairly small in the picture to emphasise the enormity of the
environmental situation we are in IMHO, as depicted by the large area gloomy sky. You win some, you lose some.

The large bulk of grey is a bit overpowering.
Certainly there is contrast here, but nothing much to hold it together.
Move on to the next experiment
John
