Wildflower Abstract
I posted an update in the wildflower thread about the conditions near Red Rocks. We went for a hike yesterday at Green Mountain, and the wildflower display was pretty nice. Not terribly dense, but a very good variety.

I was playing around with the shape and symmetry of a salsiphy bloom, and came up with this. This was shot in color (D2X, 24-120mm), but I liked how b&w empahsized the patterns.

Rick, how close can you focus with that lens - I'm guessing you had to crop. Not having a true macro lens, I'm always disappointed that I can't get in close enough. Great eye and I love the shot.

Hey John,

Not sure of the minimum focusing distance on the 24-120. This is a pretty significant crop - maybe 20% of the orginal? It doesn't have to be that much though; I have another shot where the bloom takes up most of the frame, but that bloom wasn't quite as symmetrical. I don't have a macro lens, so right now cropping is the only alternative. I think I see a 105mm in my future!
