Southern Californians are in for a display of dazzling beauty, with an expected “super bloom” of wildflowers in the
Anza-Borrego Desert within the next couple of weeks (from today).

*** If you need a place to stay - get one NOW. It's like the eclipse - everything close almost sold out.***

Jim and I will head over there in the next 10 days or so. We have a red Lexus SUV, Oregon plates,  if anyone happens to be out shooting and sees us.

Too late Charlie. Thanks Sandy. Hope it holds up for at least a couple weeks. I am hoping to get out there week after next.

While you are out there you also want to look into the mass migration of Swainson's Hawks.  If you hit it just right you can see many hundreds of them lifting off in the mornings.  Search Google for Hal Cohen Hawkwatch to see his blog on this and sign up for alerts.  It is a pretty phenomenal thing to see.

Interesting. I was in Death Valley and Joshua Tree until yesterday and there is NOTHING. I think it may be that it is still rather wonderfully cool, low 40's to about 70 in the lowest elevations and lots of snow on the Panamints, Two years ago this same week of March was already in the 90's and LOTS of flowers.

Back a few days ago. Anza-Borrega is Full of flowers. Also, sphinx moth caterpillars in certain areas.
The Swainson's hawks are certainly there, but we didn't get good pictures. 500-600 lift off at about 8:30-10:30 every am - see Hal's blog that Charlie mentioned above.
Along I-15 , just west of the Lake Elsinore exit, on the north side of the freeway , is an incredible display of california and mexican poppies, lupine, and yellow things. Easy to park and walk up to. Gobs of people even on weekdays, so you can practice your cloning skills  angel
Along Lake Elsinore, north shore, are large fields of lupine.
Joshua Tree - not much at all, but what there is, is near the cottonwood entrance.

Happy shooting!
Sandy
