Bird ID Please. Is this a hawk species?
Does anyone have an idea of what type of bird this is? My wife mentioned some long name for a red tailed hawk that is mostly white.I have been trying to get photos of this white bird for about two years. It is very elusive and always flies when a vehicle comes near (within 100 yards). The bird was finally sitting on a pole long enough for me to snap some photos. This isn't the best quality because I was zoomed all the way out and I did about a 60 percent crop in elements.
This photo is not good enough to submit for a critique but I just want to learn about the bird.

Thank you for looking

Sure looks like a leucistic Red-tailed Hawk to me.

I agree with Mia.  But, I think you should post it in the Avian gallery.  I think lots of members would like to see a photo of this bird.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. John I will take your advice and post in the avian gallery just to share the experience. This photo is not the best quality. I am not the best at photoshop and had a difficult time removing a power line that crossed right at the birds feet and pole cross member.

As others have already indicated this is a leucistic Red-tailed Hawk. They aren't common, but they do occur at times. I've sen one in NJ, and one here in AZ. That's over more than 45 years of active birding.

Where are you located?

Richard,
I am located about 60 miles southwest of Chicago in Morris, Illinois.
