Playing or Fighting?
I had an opportunity to witness to Bald Eagles at "play" or perhaps something more serious. I see this behavior frequently. There are two adults and two juveniles that live in my neighborhood and they regularly pass by my house.  Although this interaction took place about 400 m from my vantage point, I was still able to record it with my 150-600 mm lens at 550 mm.  There are four images.  These are about 12% of full frame so 2.4 megapixels each.  Taken with the D 500.  The Eagles  landed (fell) in fairly shallow water, no more than half a meter deep, less than 10 m from the shoreline.  I wonder how aware they are of their surroundings when they do things like this?

It's a little difficult to make it out in the filmstrip way you presented it, but it looks like they were grasping one anothers talons and summersaulting in the air.  If so, I believe that it is usually considered courtship behavior in Bald Eagles.

I also believe it to be courtship behavior.  I have seen this type of behavior by the flightless eagles at the Miller Park Zoo, on the ground!  Then later, the first eggs were laid.

Courtship and mating behavior. They sometimes do not pull out of the dives soon enough and crash to the ground.
We have had a pair of baldies in a rehab place here who did just that a couple weeks ago.
