Petzl: It takes a licking
On October 24th last year I left my headlamp on the top of the Continental Divide, just near Mt Ida in RMNP. I planned to go back the next day to retrieve it, but that night they closed Trail Ridge Road for the winter. My headlamp spent the last seven months in the cold and amazingly harsh winds. This morning I was finally able to get up there after one failed attempt. I found it about 20 feet from where I had left it. The wind must have thrown it as the headband was in terrible shape, having been mangled by the wind and rocks. When I turned it on though, it worked like new. I didn't even have to change batteries. That's one tough headlamp!

Send the story into Petzl!

You must have really loved that headlamp.

I already sent it to them Jesse. I didn't want to spend another $40 bucks when I knew I might be able to recover this one. Michael Hodges came with me this morning and we got some other photo ops along the way, so it made the trip worthwhile.

Sweet. I remember you telling us about the headlamp. Glad you found it. Petzl makes good stuff. I've got one of their climbing harnesses and it's top quality too.

I dropped my Petzl Tikka about 12 inches onto a rock, and the cheap plastic cover came loose, and it never worked right again. After that, I'll take my Black Diamond headlamp any day over a Petzl.

I also have a Black Diamond Gemini headlamp. I'll vouch for both.

Well gear abuse aside, I am glad you got it back. I would also like to add that I did stop by your booth this past weekend after my morning in the Park. I was going to introduce myself, but you were busy with some paying customers (hope you sold some stuff). I would also like to add that you have some pretty impressive stuff, great work and I know sooner or later we'll hook up for a trip into the Park.......................J

Erik:

Ever consider a job as a gear tester? I think you've got just what it takes! I'm glad you found the headlamp, though. I've owned Petzl, Black Diamond and Princeton Tec and liked them all. I'm now using a Brunton that I'm pretty sure could moonlight as a lighthouse lamp.

BTW, welcome back to CO!
