Review: MindShift Gear MP-1 & MP-3 Photo Packs
Earlier this year, MindShift Gear sent me their new MP-1 and MP-3 photo backpacks for review.  These are made for "big lens" photographers, in the top flap style first pioneered by Moose Peterson and later adopted by Gura Gear and others.  MindShift worked with Peterson to update his designs for these new bags.

I wrote an extensive review on these bags, which I was able to test on a couple trips this spring.  If anyone's considering a new photo pack for bigger lenses, you may be interested.

Read the review here.

Max, thank you for taking time to share the link to your amazing review and outline of the MP-1 & 3 units. I do not use any long lenses being a landscape analog only photog, but I really enjoyed your in-depth personal update on these units......laugh

Sadly, not too many technical posts like this on gear reviews anymore. Not to say that there are not folks out there doing it, but seems on a smaller scale then previous generations as it were.......wink

I haven't traveled in about a year, at least by plane.  It is my understanding that TSA is now checking all electronics larger than a cell phone or will be soon.  With respect to those issues do you have any concerns about these or other photo packs?

David, I just returned from a trip but didn't deal with this... but I'm part of TSA Pre-Check.  I believe they simply force you to take all electronics larger than a cell phone out of your bag and put them through the X-ray machine in a tray.  Afterward, you can re-pack your bag.  I believe this has been happening in the UK for a while now.

It still beats the alternative, which is where we were heading with that temporary carry-on ban for all large electronics earlier in the year.
