The iconic Mountain Light gallery in Bishop, CA will be closing it doors. There is no announcement on the ML website other than the gallery closing sale banners, but Gary Crabbe talks about it in his blog : http://enlightphoto.com/another-sad-passing-galen-rowell-closure-mountain-light

I have stopped in at the gallery many, many times to see Galen's work and that of the guest artists. I met Galen once at the gallery at chatted with him for a while. It was not too longer prior to his death in the plane crash. He was a very nice and very humble guy. It will be sad to no longer have the gallery in Bishop.

Like Harley, I have been to Mountain Light many times over the years to view the photographs by Galen and the guest artists. I did purchase a Singh-Ray 'Galen Rowell' ND-Grad filter there many years ago. It was always a great pleasure to be there. Another of photography's icons will soon be no more--sad.

Be sure to read Gary Crabbe's blog post.

Harley, this is very sad for me. I can recall when Galen first bought the old bank building and I stopped there during the renovations WAY back when. I did also meet Galen and Barbara at MLG too. They both were good pilots along with Tom Reid who was piloting the twin engined aircraft during that late night / early morning crash.

Years after the crash I ran into a photog in the Buttermilk area that knew Tom Reid very well and said he was also involved with life flights and stuff for the entire sierra area. He knew Tom through his days while working in the Bishop hospital and the connection with his patients needing the special flights Tom provided.

One of my last visits was to meet up with long time NPNer Guy Tal for a review of his first exhibition there. Apparently Michael Gordon was there to meet up with Guy also. I barely said hello to MG as I was headed out the door. Seems like eons ago now.
