I'm new to NPN so I don't know all the ins and outs yet. I was wondering what the guidelines are on posting bird shots with composite backgrounds. I posted a couple and there seem to be questions. I add backgrounds occasionally to add another dimension to the picture. Thanks for your help!

Ry, welcome to NPN as I see you're new to the site since 9/23/17. I've attached a link to the bird or avian photography gallery information. The information outlined should address your question to a point. If not you can always email the avian gallery moderators directly too.
Just off hand I suspect your posting with inserted BG's pushes the images more to the POP or Photo Art galleries then a natural BG image acceptable in the avian gallery. But, as I do not post in avian that might be open for interpretation a bit.

Avian-Bird Gallery Information

Ry:

While the written guidelines do not specifically address composite backgrounds, as a moderator in the Avian gallery, replacing a background is beyond the spirit and intent of the Avian gallery.  Avian images are intended to be wild bird images with limited post processing.  Removing distracting branches, or other minor distractions are acceptable and most contributors note what they have done.  Cropping is also fully acceptable as it is often difficult to be close enough to an avian subject to create an image that doesn't need cropping for presentation.

Replacing complete backgrounds pushes the image into either the POP gallery or the Photo Art gallery as what is being presented no longer resembles the scene that was originally captured.
