Lightroom Issue

I was doing some year-end cleanup today and happened to be looking at the files in the folder on my hard drive where I keep the 2017 images that I'm considering posting on NPN.  I noticed that there seemed to be quite a few that weren't part of my Lightroom Catalog for that folder.  I went to Library>Synchronize Folder in Lightroom and it said there were 178 files that weren't synchronized, so I clicked the [Synchronize] button and it looked like it was doing it's thing, but they didn't show up.  I restarted LR, but they still weren't there.  I tried the synchronize process again, but clicked the option for seeing the Import screen while it was happening.  When I did it, I watched them all load into the import screen then when they finished loading, POOF! they all disappeared.

The full files are on my hard drive and I can access them directly with no problem.

Not sure if it matters, but the files that it doesn't want to put in the catalog seem to be consecutive chronologically and were from the beginning of the year (almost all in January, I believe)

I'm running Windows 10 (updated two weeks ago) and updated LR recently as well, though they might have one more update waiting in the wings.  With a slow metered connection, I'm a bit stingy about doing upgrades as often as the software companies think I should.

Anyone run into this issue before?

Thanks a bunch,

Sorry, never experienced that one.  I'll be interested in seeing what the gurus come up with.  But by the way...when you say "part of my lightroom catalog for that folder" does that mean that you have multiple catalogs?  If so, once this is resolved you may wish to seriously consider only having a single LR catalog.  With all the sorting & tagging & collection capabilities of the Library module there is really no good reason to have more than one catalog simply because it can invite in exactly this sort of thing.  Every single LR expert I've seen comment online (Lightroom Queen, Tim Grey, more) recommend using only a single catalog.  Good luck.

Dennis:

It sounds to me like you are trying to import (synchronize) files that are already in your LR catalog.  They are in some other folder in your LR catalog other than the one you are trying to synchronize.  If my assumption is correct, go to Windows Explorer, find one of the files you think should be in the folder you're tying to synchronize and note the file number.
Go to LR, choose All Photographs from the left side under Catalog, be sure you're in grid view, then choose Text from filter bar to start a text based search.  Type in the file number noted above and see if you find it.  If you do, right click on the image and choose Go to Folder in Library and you'll be in the folder where it resides.

Thanks, Keith.  You nailed it.  I had some kind of computer rearrangement issue back in February and LR thought they were in a hard drive no longer attached to the computer (along with a whole bunch of other files)  I deleted them from the non-existent hard drive and synchronized the real one.  All better now.
