These two were within a large group of king penguins in Fortuna Bay, South Georgia. One this day the skies were a little drab, but the light was nice and soft. This was taken on Valentine's Day - they reminded me of a nice couple and seemed to me to fit the day as well.
I have been processing and making prints for a few people from my February trip. I thought you may like seeing this one. I just printed this for a long time client/friend at 16x24. This was taken with a D1X with a 200-400 zoom at about 300mm.
Wonderful image! A little highlight in the eye would have been a great bonus.
While you were on South Georgia did you by any chance hear about or encounter Tim and Pauline Carr? I'm just wondering if they have returned to continue their sailing adventure. They lived there year round on a refurbished 100 year old cutter. For 5 years they explored and photographed the landscape and wildlife. I just finished their great book descibing the adventure: "Antarctic Oasis - Under the Spell of South Georgia", 1998. Lots of unique photography from all over the island. Given the fickle, unforgiving weather, I'm amazed they lived to tell about it.
Let me know if you want to borrow the book. I found it while browsing a used bookstore in Houston and couldn't resist.

Bill - I saw several smaller yachts at several locations. In fact at Grytvichn I think there was the book sounds ineresting.
I am a huge penguin fan, do you have a gallery where one could view all your images, I would be very interested in one at 16x24. I have a lot of envy for you on this, this is a major goal of mine, to get out there and be with the penguins. Great shot........................J
