Grey Wagtail Hen with Beasties!
Hi All
Picture taken recently with hide. I thought the BG was a bit unusual for this species. Would appreciate your comments. Specs. Canon 1D MK11n 300mm Lens 2x conv.
ISO 400 1/2000 sec F5.6 -0.3 EV. Cropped.

Hi John, you are right it looks somewhat different with this BG, like a desert or so... I like the pose and the huge mouthfull. :wavey:

I think using both 2xconv, cropping and f5.6 is stretching it. For this situation I think you could have done well with much slower time like 1/500 and gaining in either iso or DOF.

What a mouthful! I agree with Helge, but nice to see a species in a different setting.

Great shot, not sure about the BG.

Interesting shot John. Not the usual sort of background. It always amazes me how many insects they can collect - when they have a beak full how do they see to catch the next one?

I'm curious about the image processing - what do you use for raw conversion - Rawshooter by any chance?

Hi John

A good composition, the background is ok although looks slightly odd for a UK image. I would agree it seems to be lacking a fraction in sharpness. General opinion seems to be with the 2x fitted it is best to stop down about 1 stop for max sharpness. 1/2000th seems a bit overkill so I reckon 1/500th at f11 or 1/1000th at f8 would get you a sharper image.

Otherwise a great shot and I like the stuff in the beak which adds something to this portrait type image.

cheers
