Moorhen chick
Taken at Stover in Devon. This is one of three chicks that kept coming out of their dark and sheltered surroundings for feeding from their parents. Really good to watch, but couldn't isolate them from such a busy background. Bit miffed about the distracting foliage in front of the bill, so I've put it in a "habitat shot" category

I know it's a common subject, but tis is the first I have of a chick

Appreciate any comments

Graeme

Hi Graeme
Nice image, could perhaps have pulled back to get the reflection of the chick in as well, looks like the water was calm, or got the parent feeding the chick.
Cheers Simon

Funny thing Graeme, My eye was taken straight to your subject as soon as the shot opened. The white bit in front of the beak is loud, but your subject is strong and demands attention.

The part reflection and light on the feet area are great. Well done on getting a clear shot of a new subject.

Cheers,

I like it pretty much as it is Graeme. The chick is nice and clear and includes the funny feet, and the background is typical habitat - in fact the big stems give the viewer a feeling of how small the chick is.

The bright leaf infront of the beak is my nit - I would clone some colour into it so that it is not so eye catching.

Hi Graeme

Nice portrait shot of this young bird in it's natural habitat. I would prefer a little more light onto the near side of the chick to lighten up the black a bit, but only a minor point.

cheers

Sean
