Every time I have visited Yellowstone National Park in past, no matter what time of year, something magical always seems to happen. Yellowstone is particularly incredible in the winter time, and has become my favorite time of year to photograph wildlife and landscapes in the park. I am eagerly looking forward to returning next January for our annual winter photography tour.
Last years tour was especially eventful! Our group had an incredible encounter with the large 19 Mile wolf pack soon after they had took down a young bison within 50 yards of the road north of Norris Geyser Basin in the interior of the park. The inter-action between pack members as they approached, wondered around, feasted upon and left the carcass was an incredible opportunity for our group to photograph at close range this rarely seen event. We also had great encounters with a family of River Otters along the Yellowstone River the very next day.
Along with photographic opportunities to film Bison, Elk, Moose, Mule Deer and Pronghorn Antelope in winter environs, this tour is timed at the same time of year that the candid family are in the midst of breeding season. We hope to photograph wolves, coyotes and red foxes as they court one another and offer photographers the opportunity to film the exciting inter-actions between courting pairs.
