Rob Galbrath is reporting a firmware upgrade for the D2X to be released shortly. Improved autofocus algorithms and a black and white mode are among the features it will introduce.

It will be of some joy to D2X owners that this update allows sensor cleaning on battery power alone without the need for an AC source.

Very cool - the b&w mode will be a nice feature.

This sounds great - can't wait until it becomes available.

"Rob Galbrath is reporting a firmware upgrade for the D2X to be released shortly."

In the same article it says

"RBB Today say the downloadable update will be released in the fourth quarter of 2006."

That could be as late as December - I bet Nikon will want to get a few of the new bodies in the pipeline before they release this update, so maybe not so "soon". But it is nice Nikon will make this available anyway for the older bodies...
