Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Nature Photographers! Please take a minute to share a little information about yourself. While you're at it, take a little time to learn about you fellow members.
Joe from Thornton CO. I enjoy being on the sunny side of the dirt, remembering to to turn the camera on, pork chops, dust free sensors, fresh batteries. I also love spending time with my wife, hiking and discovering new places. Looking forward to more outings with the good people of this forum, see ya soon....................J

I have been learning SO MUCH in NPN and am so very grateful for the fantastic help that many of you have offered to me. I just hope that someday I will know enough that I can return the favor to a future novice.
My hobbies include large format photography and B/W (sometimes digital now), travelling, cycling, collecting gear and annoying my wife

I thought I would say hello and unlurk myself. Outside of photography I enjoy the outdoors, volleyball, and time with my family. I have acquired a lot of helpful information and inspiration from CNP over the last couple of years. Thanks.
Chris Martin, 23, Arvada, CO
Lurked on CNP for about a year before finally joining last August. Have been doing "serious" photography for about 3 years. I got my degree in Forestry from CSU last December so hopefully with the weight of school off my shoulders I'll be able to go take pictures more. I have a great job for the Forest Service out of Boulder so I get to hike every day. Other than photography I like most anything outdoors: snowboarding, hiking, rock climbing, cycling, etc.
Well, I can now truly say that I mostly take pictures within the region of this forum! By day I am a system administrator and sometime programmer, but I am trying to work my way into a more serious position in nature photography.
As a military photojournalist I have been working in photography for more than 20 years, my passion for the outdoors however is what kept me in it.
I have re-focused my photography more into my love of the Colorado Outdoors and Nature in general.
After teaching photographic workshops for 4 years, I have found I am far more comfortable on my own alone out in the field or just casually out with others just sharing in the experience.
"My Turn ons are Waterfalls, Wildflowers and Mountains in Thunderstorms or Blizzards, my Turn offs are Warm Beer, Bologna and Cigarettes. I'm a Pisces, My Colors are Earthen tone Autumns and I'm not a Vegitarian."
I look forward to meeting others who travel here and ne day I hope to meet others on their own turf so that I might broaden my experiences in photographing new places all along the Rocky Mountains!
Moved to Louisville in 1991 from California. Operate a mannequin manufacturing company in Broomfield. Wife and 3 teenage kids. Began my love of photography while living in and around Greece, Turkey, Pakistan and Iran in the mid 60's. Have moved from a Brownie Hawkeye thru a Pentax Spotmatic to my current Canon 1Ds MkII.
Love hiking/exploring/travelling/photography. Especially enjoy exploring Southern Utah. Too many opportunities, too little time.
Love the fraternity CNP (oops RMNP) has provided. Great inspiration.
I love and aspire to nature photography but also enjoy rock climbing photography as rock climbing is another hobby of mine (and is the primary hobby for my husband!). I have a day job as an engineer, but hope to (early) retire soon and devote more time to photography, travel, rock climbing, camping, hiking, etc. I love the Southwest and would like to explore the Rocky Mountain region more.
Howdy everyone! Well I'm currently finishing up my degree of Environmental Design: Architecture from CU-Bolda. I have one more course this summer (starts tomorrow) and currently searching for a part-time internship at a Architectural/Design firm. Beside school I love doing all things ART - drawing, graphic design, web design, and of course Photography! Beside my art background I have been fixing/selling/making computers since the 8th grade.

The wife and I moved here on Thanksgiving weekend 2003. We're both born and raised in the Southeast and loved the Appalachians but really wanted to relocate to the Rocky Mtn. region. I'm an Environmental Geologist working in Thornton. Hobbies are landscape and nature photography (duh) travel, hiking, and college football. Probably the only person from the Southeast who doesn't give a rip about NASCAR.
IT Professional born and raised in Indiana with hobbies in photography of all sorts, backpacking, hiking, camping, writing, web design, music, guitar, cooking, craft brewing, wine, and of course basketball.
scott rosenberg
dallas, texas by way of florida and california - presently contemplating a move to salt lake city, utah or portland, oregon. decisions, decisions...
i'm into photography, hiking, biking, backpacking... just about anything out-of-doors.
My top passion is whitewater kayaking, followed closely by photography....in addition to these activities I also enjoy downhill skiing, backpacking, hiking, and traveling to exotic locales. I've lived in Colorado since 1975 after being raised in Wisconsin where I graduated from UW-Madison (although I have photographed badgers, I had to travel to Yellowstone NP to do it).
Nathan Buck, married with three kids; six, two, and two weeks. I have a wonderful wife who is fully supportive of this wonderful hobby. I am a software tester by day, though I graduated in accounting and then with an MBA.
A town called Lehi, UT is home to me and my family. Lehi is about 25 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Lurking and enjoying the site for about 5 months. Somewhat of an amatuer (sp?) in the digital game, but am excited about what I'm learning here. Been trying to get out this year as much as possible, but my wife (hiking partner) is in heated pursuit of her master degree from DU, so the treks have been few and far between. Living in Lone Tree currently and loving me some Stanley Cup Finals at this time of the year. Also enjoy mountain biking and occassionally chasing a little white golf ball around a course.
If anyone is interested in someone to tag along on their excursions, let me know.
Beyond photography, I enjoy exploring and enjoying the mountains, biking (preferably road), hiking, skiing and sailboat racing. I've been here a while, but I don't usually don't post unless I have something to say, which is rarely.
I'm an active visitor to the site and am increasing my posting activity. I'm older with some mobility problems which limit me to easier access sites. When I was young like most of you I participated in all outdoor activities I could find time for. I love NPN and RMNP for the insight and inspiration provided.

I "live" in Westminster, CO & work in Houston as a geologist.
Fortunately, work brings me frequently to Farmington and Durango.
After a 15 year "break", digital technology rekindled my interest in photography.
Looking forward to retirement, and a lot more time for photography in the Southwest!!
Guy Tal from Holladay, UT, at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, and soon may also have another spot farther south to call a second home - don't ask - I don't want to jinx it.
In my spare (yeah, right) time I hike, backpack, canyoneer, a poor excuse for an alpine climber (really, if it's more than 5.6 it's not worth doing ), and generally just like to loaf around in wilderness away from people. Photography is to me an extension of the above and small consolation for my inability to paint (oh, to have the hand of Bierstadt...)
I'm also co-janitor of the Earth Sea and Sky forum for anyone who has yet to visit/post there.
Still lurking more than posting, but I do enjoy the site. I try to check for new posts almost daily. As my health permits I enjoy taking photographs in the Rocky Mountains. I still enjoy 4 wheeling in some of the out of the way places.
I guard the Western Colorado/Utah border
from a Grand Junction location.
I enjoy photography, hiking, cross country skiing.
I have been at photography as a hobby for decades. I am currently
climbing the learning curve of photoshop. I have two grown sons

look forward to more time to pursue the hobby.

A forum lurker for the most part. I'm an ex elephant trainer, but the megascatological experience has led me into a real estate career. I do have a 1974 vintage degree in Natural Sciences (Ft. Lewis College in Durango). You can find me packing a Nikon D-70 around the countryside looking for wildlife, landscapes and shots that depict old west history. I have much to learn about photography both artistically and technically. Thanks, everyone!
I have been studying photography for the past 25 years. Have gone on a few outings some time ago. Made the switch to the dark side last year. Love to camp out, fish and do anything outdoors. Going to Alberta Canada in two months, hope to have something worthy of sharing. I love to see everyones work on the site.
Scott Borger. During the day I'm an MBA student. At night I'm a janitor, On the weekends I'm a mountaineer and photographer. I got into photography about a year ago when my college running career ended and I needed another addiction. CNP (as it was formerly known) has been incredibly helpful to me in learning about photography. I'm amazed at the generosity and knowlege that I have found on this forum. Thank you all.

Lee Robinson in Sandy, Utah. Born and raised on Long Island, but have lived close to the Wasatch for a long time. My wife and I enjoy travelling throughout the west and usually stay near the Rockies, although sometimes we'll venture off the southern edge of the Plateau.
As cultural outsiders here, we tend to find ourselves looking for solitude in the Tetons or San Juans or Sierras or Whites, but find the Wasatch as beautiful as any place we've been.
Adam Schallau in Taos, New Mexico. Born in Philadelphia, raised in Iowa, lived in Texas for 12 years, part-time in Gothic, Colorado years ago, and Taos for the last 5 years. My wife and I moved here to escape big city life and to pursue photography. I love all of the American West and enjoy meeting and shooting with other photographers. I think NPN is one of the greatest things to happen to the landscape photographer's world.
Besides landscape photography I enjoy shooting architecture (ancient & modern), people, and pretty much anything that inspires me to be creative with the camera. When I'm not at the 9-5 job or managing my photo business I help run an aviation based search & rescue and disaster relief unit.
Brian VanDenzen, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Lawyer who uses photography as a creative escape, spiritual journey, and excuse to enjoy the beauty of the world rather than the dark side of human nature I encounter at work. Born and raised in Wisconsin. Have lived out west for 5-years, all in New Mexico. My spiritual beginning and center is in the San Juan Mountains. But I find true beauty and peace all over the west.
Posted by Roger Rouch on June 12, 2006 at 12:46 PM
Roger Rouch here in the Denver burbs, though I've also lived in Creede, Montrose, Ft. Collins, and Pueblo in my adult life. I recall introducing myself before, maybe a lot has changed. After being a dedicated film user for years I finally broke down and purchased a 5D which arrived a week or two ago. It was enough of a trama to my wallet that my palms were literally sweating when I placed the order, but I'll get over it.
Also, with a little luck I'll be going into semi-retirement with-in the year. Poking around in the outdoors, especially with a camera, is among the top things in my life. I'm not all that old, but would like to enjoy the outdoors while I'm able to, and may return to the workforce as a greater at Water World when I'm 60.
I'm getting to know some folks pretty well without actually meeting them in person!
Chuck Peacock
Craig, Colorado
3rd generation CO native, loved CNP but welcome RMNP
Lived a few years in southern AZ and the desert grew on me but I'm a mountain man at heart.
( BTW, I'm with the government - I'm here to help. )
My primary photo interest is landscape but am trying my hand at some wildlife when I can.
I had to decide between large format and digital a couple of years ago and went digital - no regrets.
Other likes besides photography: fishin', huntin', and almost anything else outside enjoying God's creation. (The knees aren't what they used to be though. ) ...and a "good" beer with fresh caught fish at the camp fire.
Renee Highlands Ranch, CO. I'm a Colorado Native who has been nearly everywhere in the western part of the state. My favorite photo subjects are wildflowers and mountain landscapes. I shoot with an old, manual, Olympus OM4 and long for the day when I can buy an updated system. (I dream of auto focus )
Outside of photography, I enjoy backpacking, hiking, camping, gardening and swing dancing. I'm trying to get my fill of these this summer since I am expecting a baby boy in October and will have my hands full.
Michael Renner Jr, Englewood, Colorado. I have been hanging out on this site for almost a year now, and I am really glad I stumbled upon it. Learning a lot from the other photographers here and hoping to quit my day job someday and focus on photography. Currently I work at a telecom company, and daydream about photography. Oh well...
Vince Martinez from Brighton, Colorado. I started getting serious with Wildlife Photography about 3 years ago. I hope to make it a full time gig sometime soon

OK, I guess it's my turn.
I live in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and work at Los Alamos National Lab as a Biochemist/Molecular Biologist. I love being outside in the mountains, deserts, and nature in general. Staying home and watching TV is boring (except during the NBA playoffs).
I used to shoot with Canon Elan 7 on Velvia. Since 2004, I have been using a Nikon P&S camera, Nikon 8400. It is very slow, but adequate for landscapes. If you are interested in looking at some of my pictures, please go to:
Paul Martin
My biggest claim to fame is that I went to the same high school as Scott Bacon. I was Born in New Mexico and raised in Colorado, I went to the greatest university in CO -- CSU
I started with a Pentax SLR about 5 years ago and have since graduated to the EOS system. I am still shooting film, but hope to add a dSLR very soon. I work nights at a sleep disorders center in Denver, so I am often up at odd hours which lends itself well to photography. I currently reside in Broomfield, or as I call it, the armpit between Denver and Boulder. When not out taking pictures or hiking you'll find me on the golf course -- its not hard to spot me cause I'm like the only 6'6'' guy out there. I'm looking forward to learning all that this new larger group has to offer. Thanks!
I have been a passionate photographer of the natural world for over 35 years. My day job is Technical Director of Geology at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. My camera of choice is still a 4x5 view camera, but I recently acquired a D200 and am enjoying it.
Hey everyone - I am still around. I'm Becky, I'm an amateur from the Denver suburbs. I am a banker by day and will be returning to school in the Fall for a second bachelors, this time in Finance. I shoot with a Nikon Coolpix 5400, which is a little P&S compared to what most of the folks around here use, but I seem to do pretty well with it. I actually just today ordered a lens kit for it, so we'll see what sort of havoc I can unleash when armed with a wide angle macro and a polarizer, eh?
Kevin Birznieks...27 years old. I posted more frequently a couple years ago, but have only lurked and posted a few times since. I caught the trout bug a while ago and I'm now getting back into the photography thing. I've been more into fishing photography and have been published a few times in that area. My goal when I'm setting up for a shot in the mountains is to try to be "different" and stick out from the crowd. I've always been a loner in that respect. I live in Granby and do taxidermy full time in Hot Sulphur Springs working for a shop, but I'll soon have my own business in Central CO doing taxidermy, woodcarving and take photography more seriously than I am. Everything I do is a creative outlet...if I don't create, I go crazy! I have my images for sale at Streamside Art Gallery in Granby and this keeps me motivated to keep making images people want on thier walls. On Saturday I'm hiking up to a high country lake to get some images of native Colorado River cutthroats to add to my collection. These fish fascinate me. I'm headed up to Alaska for seven days in the middle of July for fishing and photos. This should end up as a new page on my website.

I was born and raised in Denver by a geologist and pursued hydrogeology myself for a number of years, so I love the western landscape around us. Gave up consulting about a year ago to pursue photography full time, having a great time so far. I love wandering around anywhere, really, but the west especially and finding new places to photograph and bring back to the city dwellers. I also love bike riding (just participated in my 2nd Ride the Rockies) and skiing and snowboarding. I have a wonderful wife of 16 years and 8 and 10 year old daughters. I look forward to being an active member of RMNP and meeting other members.

Hello. I'm Jennifer. I'm 30 years old. Born, raised, and living in the Finger Lakes of NY. I've been seriously persuing photography for 2 1/2 years now. I will be taking my first trip out west to Colorado this fall - Sept. 23-30 - in hopes of finding some beautiful foliage. May the weather gods be on my side! I'm watching this forum and several others to get ideas for my trip. Your images have been amazing and make my wait that more painful. Keep up the good work!

Hello all! I'm David from Denver. A buddy of mine in Oregon has been pushing me for a year to join NPN... I finally took the plunge! I am really excited about the regional forum, and having a chance to meet fellow photographers locally. I have been shooting off and on for over a decade, and really dove back into it in the last 3 years or so. I hope to jump in on some discussions soon!
Hello,
I've been lurking here for a long time enjoying the photos and discussions. I am a birder and a grandmother who enjoys photographing and identifying herps, dragonflies and other bugs, mammals, flowers and most things in nature. My husband and I are semi-retired but still own and operate a small outfitting business in the Flattops Wilderness area. I live in NW Colorado near Meeker and until recently lived 30 miles east of Meeker but now live 6 mile SE of Meeker where there fewer wildlife photo ops in my yard than I am used to but I still get up to the mountains regularly.

Hi. I'm Jeff, and I've recently relocated to Tooele, UT from Cleveland, OH. I've observed your forum for some time and love the image posts. I plan to post some... sometime. I've just discovered the Uintas (not that they have'nt always been there) and they are spectacular. There is a lot more to see and I don't think there is enough time, so I better get to work.
Thanks Guy. My wife and I wanted something different and talked about it for a few years, and of course we both love Utah. I have been here several times. No, I am not in the military. We chose Tooele because it isn't as congested as the Ogden-SLC-Provo corridor (if that's the proper local terminology), but not too far away from a large metropolitan area. Actually, Tooele is about the same distance from SLC as where we lived from Cleveland.

Hi, I'm Mike McNeill. I'm from Boston at the moment, but have recently purchased a townhouse in Estes Park for when I retire. I am an avid outdoorsman with a "thing" for mountains, having attempted Denali, trekked into Cho Oyu's basecamp in Tibet, as well as the summit of Mera Peak in Nepal. I also enjoy rock and ice climbing, (I've been to Ouray a few times). Skiing, snowshoeing, backpacking to riding my Harley. (Which I plan to take out there the end of this September). A newbie to photography, this is another reason for me to "get outdoors!!"

For the past couple of months I have been checking out this forum for the tips on wildflower and fall foliage locations (as well as for the members' fantastic image posts) and thought I should introduce myself. I am from Loveland, Colorado and I currently work as a staff photographer for Regis University in Denver. When I'm not shooting photos on campus I try to get to the mountains (or the Utah canyon country if I have more free time) and shoot scenics. Thanks to all of you for maintaining such a great site.

Hi, I'm Frank Howell.
New to the site, but I've been into nature photography since HS, in the early 70's. Just registered today.
I currently shoot a Canon 20D and shoot widely around CO, WY and Antarctica when I get a trip south. My first camera was an Argus C3 Rangefinder, then I stepped up to SLR's with the Canon FTB witch served me for almost 15 years and still works today. I've also done some Under Water shooting with a Sea & Sea 35.
I've been lurking around here for a few months and finally decided to join in the fun.

We are Jim and Karen Audett - a husband/wife team. We have been shooting landscapes and wildlife for several years and found out about you from Erik Stensland when he was showing his work in Estes Park last year. Thanks Erik! We live in Westminster,CO and get up to the mountains as often as possible. We work together a lot and sometimes don't even know who took a certain shot. It's been great being a part of the forums and we have learned a lot. Thanks to all of you for your insight and willingness to share your knowledge with others.

Hello everyone,
I just registered today. I ran across this site last year (2005) looking for info on getting updates on the fall colors at Maroon Bells. I currently live in Lakewood, CO and have lived in Colorado almost my whole life. My day job is a draftsman for an electrical and mechanical engineering company (commercial buildings: schools, offices, hotels). I have been taking photos as a professional hobby now since 2001. My passion is landscapes and animals. Sports are a lot of fun to shoot but with my camera I have a hard time getting the shots I want. I tend to take more pictures outside of Colorado when I am on vacation. I am originally from Minnesota and I sometimes spend more time on the lake taking pictures than I do with the family. I have been to 48 of the 50 states. You can probably guess what two I have not been to yet. I plan on visiting the final two by 2009 (my 30th b-day). The camera I use is the Canon 20d with a Sigma 50-500mm.
Competitive hobbies I involve myself by participating in tournaments includes tennis, table tennis, 9-ball, foosball. I snowboard for fun and I am a bit of a computer geek. Sorry for the long post, I am not a writer but tend to write a lot.

I'm currently shooting digital 35mm (Canon 20D) and I've jumped into the large format 4x5 realm. I've been shooting since the early 80's and I'm always trying to improve and learning there is plenty of room for improvement! :}

Greetings all.
I am a lifelong resident of Colorado, first in Colorado Springs, then the Denver area, before moving to Fort Collins for school (go CSU), and finally moving back to Denver. I currently live in SE Denver and work in Boulder.
I have also worked as a freelance photographer for most of the daily newspapers on Front Range. I got my start at the Greeley Tribune, was the photo editor of the CSU student newspaper, and have worked for the Boulder Camera, Longmont Times-Call, Loveland Reporter-Herald, Rocky Mountain News, and the Associated Press. As I have gotten busy with other work, the freelance has tapered off, so I fulfill my photographic addiction by wandering through the woods, desert, beaches, city, and wherever else I find myself.

I've been a long-time time lurker and finally decided to pony up and join as I've learned a lot from the folks on NPN. I live in Lyons, CO and spend a fair bit of time shooting in Rocky Mtn. National Park and the local area, although I do get in my yearly trips to Moab and Southern CO. I mostly enjoy nature photography although I did get roped into shooting several weddings and had a blast. I make my living being an IT guy. I hope to absorb some photographic wisdom from the people here and hopefully I can share something in return. I hope to meet some of you during my shooting adventures.

I,ve been practicing photography since I was 10 on and off. Before leaving Calif. in 1991 to settle in CO I had a profitable part-time home studio doing portraits and some weddings. My darkroom was equipped to handle 35mm, medium format and 4x5 B&W. I sold all that after I moved. But, I love landscape so last January bought a Canon 20D with the usual "L" glass collection. After attending the Shindig Saturday night and seeing George's 4x5 trannys on the light table I know its just a matter of time before I get into LF again. Think I will master this digital thing first!

Thanks, Rick! I had a great time meeting everyone and seeing all those goregeous photos and Georges 4x5 trannys and all. I never did shoot any color or reversal film with my old Calumet 4x5 so that was a real treat. Derek and I are heading out early Sat AM for either RMNP or Collegiate Peaks areaa for some sunrise moonsets (hopefully). Gonna be cold but hey no pain no gain!

Hello All:
I've been checking out this website for a few months now and I have decided to become a member. I just sent in the information for the trial membership, but I'm sure I'll be keeping it. This seems like a great group, and I hope I can contribute in some small way.
I live in Thornton, CO. I've taken most of my photographs on vacations or short day trips. Only now am I getting a bit more involved in pursuing photography more seriously. I've mostly shot 35mm transparency, but I upgraded to 6x7 early last year. (I know, I didn't go the digital route.) Thanks to digital though, I've been picking up used medium format gear for an absolute song. Even with purchasing a brand new Nikon 9000 ED scanner, I've still spent less than Canon 5D body alone. So for now, I'm holding off on the digital conversion.
Anyway, I hope to get to know the group over the coming years.
Sincerely,
Steve

I've been photographing nature for over 15 years, which began simply to make decent pics from backpacking trips. That grew to a full-on obsession, which today is an extension of all outdoor adventures, 14'ering, and trekking in foreign lands. I'm the photographer for Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR and my wife and I love road & mountain biking too.

Hi! I just joined, and am very happy to be here. I have lived in Colorado since 1968. I started shooting photos (badly) in 1981 with a borrowed SLR on a backpack trip to the Flat Tops. Currently I shoot a 6x9 Century Graphic that I stripped down for portability. Though I live in Fort Collins, CO, my favorite locations are 1) the Colorado Plateau and 2) China, where my job as a design engineer often takes me.

Allo! I've been on NPN for a while, but I haven't done any regional stuff cuz the southwest one went away and my pants didn't fit and i broke up with my girlfriend but then I got a new one but she yelled at me until I said yes'm and some people think I ramble on too much and my dog got hit by a car once I think and now she's going blind but still likes to go on hikes and I'm learning how to use a large format camera and photoshop and all these neat tools that let me make pretty pictures cuz I forgot how to draw with a pencil. Thankee. Oh yeah, I live in Tucson! Send us your old people :-D
Don - welcome to RMNP. Looking forward to seeing some pics from that Century Graphic.
Laurent - yeah, it's about time you stopped in here. I mean, just because your pants fell off and your girlfriend left you and your new one yelled at you for rambling on about how your blind dog got hit by a car while hiking with your large format camera...that's no reason to stay away. I think we've got the highest % of LF photogs of any regional forum. You'll fit in quite well here. As long as you put your pants back on. Welcome!
Just stopped in over here after a reference from the Large Format Photography forums. I guess I had better tell a little bit about myself.
My name is Chris, and I'm a 26 y.o. from Denver. I moved west from Chicago in 2001, and have loved the stay so far.
I started taking pictures when I was about 9. I started with an M42 system, switched to Canon FD. Went to Canon Digital about 3 years ago, and just this past November switched to Pentax digital. I've decided to take up Large Format, and am in the process of getting an LF system together right now.
I don't spend quite as much time out hiking as I would like to, but I try to get up to RMNP and other close destinations at least 10-15 times per year. I've climbed 7 of the 14ers so far, and hope to get a couple more this year.
I guess that's about it for now. I look forward to spending time here!

Hi Christopher,
I look forward to your pics. Welcome to RMNP!
Posted by Carol Hyman on April 17, 2007 at 1:43 PM
Hi, I'm Carol Hyman and I'm in the process of moving to Ivins, Utah.
I have a background in a variety of fields and jobs that range from being an Art Director to a Member of the Technical Staff at SGI; I've been, in turns, a teacher, a technical trainer, an instruction designer, a Systems Administrator, and a Systems Analyst. I'm still wondering what I'm going to do when I grow up.
While I've spent a lifetime with a camera frequently in my hands, it's only recently that I've decided it was high time to pay attention to the technical details as well as the composition.
I'm really looking forward to returning to the mountains.
Hi Carol - welcome to the group! Looking forward to seeing you around on the forum!

Hi all,
Amy Lindsey from the Indianapolis, IN area. I've been watching the CNP/RMNP site for about 3 years. I took a workshop from Grant Collier in the fall of 2003 and met CAZ who introduced me to this site. I'm a HUGE fan of all things Colorado and mountains. I love to shoot grand scenics of mountains coupled with valleys, lakes, and flowers. I am getting into macro flower photography (if i could ever get my 100mm back from CAZ) and try to make at least 2 trips a year to CO.
I currently work in Emergency Management for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. It's a pretty fun job but keeps me on the road quite a bit. I'd like to move into being a professional photographer *some day* and am building my skills with every photo adventure.
I love getting ideas from all the wonderful photogs on here. Your pictures help me plan my future trips!
Looking forward to meeting you all in the CB mountains come July!
Feel free to check out my website at www.amylindsey.smugmug.com
Hi everybody,
I am Vinita Morrison. I currently live in Thornton,CO.I registered this Saturday. I have admired every single photo in this place for quite sometime. Though mine are not that good, I hope to learn from you all and become a good photographer in the near future. Me and my family go to RMNP every week. We hike sometimes if my toddler and my 4 month old allows. Anyway, being outdoors with nature makes me happy.
Hi All,
Friends call me Chas. I have lived in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area for about 18 years. I work for the largest real estate company in the region coordinating, cataloging and retouching home photos for their monthly magazine. My former hobbies are bicycle road racing, mountain biking and cross-country skiing, but too many accidents and a neurological condition now prevent me from doing things that athletic. I spend 8 hours (or more) each work day with Photoshop open on my office PC and I know I need I to get out more. Maybe this forum will motivate me!
Welcome to RMNP, Chas! If there's anyplace that can motivate you to get out more and shot, it's this place. Looking forward to seeing some of your work!
My name is Tim Behle. I'm live in SE Arizona, but am originally from West Central Indiana. My wife and I love taking day trips to the mountains, and I recently decided to pull the camera back out and start recording some of our memories of things we have seen. I sold a few photo's when I was a teen, then discovered girls and gave up the camera to spend my time chasing them.
My passion has long been for coyotes, and I'd like to get back into doing some photojournalism to get this hobby to pay for itself. Especially since the first thing I noticed, was that to get a good picture of a wild coyote or fox, I was going to need a bigger lens.
I've been lurking here for about a year now and taking as much knowledge as I can from this wonderful group of photographers. I decided it was high time I stop mooching and become an active forum member, so here I am.
I'm a Colorado native of 28 years, born at Aurora Presbyterian. I live with my wife of four years in Broomfield and work as part of the Military Industrial Complex to make my living and funds for new and improved camera equipment.
I used to be a Minolta man back in my film days and now shoot the Sony Alpha, which is a good little cam and I can keep using all the lenses I know and love.
Well, anyway, I just wanted to drop a line about who I am and say I'm happy, if a little intimidated, to be among such good photographers. Maybe I'll see you up in the hills from time to time.
Posted by Rick Dunn on August 12, 2007 at 10:54 AM
Tim, Matt - welcome to RMNP!!
Tim - I did the reverse, giving up girl-chasing for photography. Despite getting only one favorable result for every 50 pictures taken, it was a higher success rate than when asking girls out for a date...
Matt - you've got some great work on your website! Looking forward to seeing you post more of your work!

Hello All!
I've been here for couple months now, and haven't introduce myself yet. Shame on me.
I am Gabi Lach. I live in Park City, Utah. I am originaly from Czech Republic, living in the US for a while, in Utah for almost 11 years. I work in Salt Lake as a software developer. Otherwise, I do all kind of stuff outdoor, mostly with my husband. I love outdoor sports and wilderness. Utah is a perfect place for that, love it here!
I started beeing serious about photography about three years ago. I am driven to become better and to take nice photographs of this beautiful nature here. It just makes me happy!
My first impression of NPN is great! There are so many excellent photographers and so many good people here! Thank you all for beeing so kind and helpful! It's really good to be here.

Hi folks,
My wife Terri and I have been here in Aurora for about 23 years now. We're transplanted Okies but arrived here via New York. I'm a software developer and she's a property mgr. We took up photography about 9 months ago because we wanted some eagle snap shots over at Cherry Creek. She does floral and a little bit of macro and I do avian but will probably be trying to expand to other genres. Having to have a bird present to press the shutter gets frustrating at times.
We've no interest in selling images. This is strictly Open Source for us. We are very interested in learning from the folks out here though. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hello,
My name is Rodney Jack and I have enjoyed reading and learning from you on this great site. I grew up in Alamosa CO and have lived in Utah, California, and have ended up in Idaho. I think I am the lone Idahoan here, but my roots are in mountain country. I shoot Canon digital (have shot canon film and medium format film) and love it. I have done most types of photography, and still do the occational wedding or senior, but nothing beats getting out to breath some fresh air and photographing the great outdoors (except maybe teaching others). I look forward to becoming part of this group and sharing images from this area.

Jay from Lakewood, CO. Enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, & backpacking with the family, and now spending time with the new dog.
Hi all,
I've been on this site for a few years now, but have pretty much disappeared the last year or two. Starting a marketing firm in Denver sucks up every minute. But that's getting more under control so I'm back in the proverbial saddle.
Have been shooting for what seems like a gazillion years starting with news and sports for papers, UPI, magazines starting in the early 70's for too many years before I burned out (too many late nights, film processing and late night deadlines). About half dozen years ago a buddy convinced me to take up landscape photography. I fought him on it. Content with pictures of the family. He won. So did I. Got hooked and then the new company sidetracked me yet again. But, as I said, went out last weekend for the first time in a long time and now ALL I want to do is shoot. Anyway, great to be back. Look forward to meeting some of you down the road. Todd--Hi to ya!

Posted by Jeff Lawson on October 1, 2007 at 1:43 PM
I just stumbled upon this forum a few days ago, but I recognize many of the names.
I'm Jeff Lawson. I was born in Iowa and raised in Texas, but decided a change in scenery was in order after graduating from college. After spending some time in Nebraska, California, and Japan, I landed in Colorado. As a photographer, I think I found a good place to land.
Today, I live in Littleton, where I work in international contract law in the space industry. In the past, I've spent time chasing and photographing severe thunderstorms and tornadoes on the Great Plains. I don't do that much anymore (getting older and more responsible, I guess). Nowadays, I search out photo opportunities in my own backyard here in Colorado. Thankfully, it's a big backyard.

Hey guys and gals,
I've been a NPN member for about 1.5 years now, participating mainly in the ESS area and on the SENP forum. I'm originally from across the Pond "England", moved to Colorado in 1999, then to North Carolina in 2003, and now back to Colorado this November (in 3 weeks).
I've been interested in photography for well over 20 years now, but seriously for probably 10. I'm mainly interested in landscapes, flora and wildlife. Photography is not my full-time occupation, but I do sell images regularly. I supply photo cards to the NPS for use at their Blue Ridge Parkway stores; supply magazines with images, have had 2 cover images; and I also have held workshops in NC during the Fall season.
Though most of your names are familiar from the ESS gallery, the only person I met when I lived in CO previously was James Egbert. This time around we'll be moving to the North area, probably Longmont, so I hope to get to RMNP frequently, and to meet some of you guys!.

Hey Everyone!
I've been hanging around this site for awhile so I thought I'd tell you a little about myself. I'm a Minnesota native but I really love Colorado.
My first camera was a Kodak 110 Instamatic that I received on my 16th birthday. With many cameras in between I currently shoot with a Nikon D200. I'm totally self taught with a lot of trial and error. Photography has always been a very passionate hobby. No website for me. I currently work for a sheetfed printing company doing drum scanning, photoshop and desktop publishing.
Photography motivates me to travel to new places and capture the beauty that I see. I like knowing some of my photos have inspired others to travel to an area where I've been and see it for themselves. All are non-photographer's so it doesn't take much to impress them.
This past year I've made it to Colorado twice. I hope to return for some wildflower shooting next year. I hope to meet some of you then. This forum is great. I travel to Colorado all the time through this forum looking at everyone's great pictures.
Thanks for joining us over here. Let us know when you are coming to Colorado again and dont be afraid to post some pics of your trips.
Welcome!

Hi folks,
I've been a member for about a year, but only recently discovered the daily alert re:forum postings. I'm an Alaskan native presently living in Arizona. You can imagine where I want to be when summer rolls around here!
My first camera, about 32 years ago, was an Instamatic. I learned a little darkroom technique and had some SLR shooting experience in high school on the yearbook staff, then took a photography class in college.
I'm professionally involved with the hardware side of photography. My career started out at Kodak's research labs working on autofocus and light metering modules, etc. In the 1980's, we shifted into digital and I prototyped the company's first DSLR by reverse engineering contacts on a Nikon F3 motor drive and using the signals to synch our 1 MP imager (it cost > $20K at that time!). I got to help launch the DC100 product in Europe in 1992-3. : )
For most of my adult life, I took pictures of activities and vacations. About 6 yrs ago, my focus changed, and I started planning my trips around making photos. My artistic skills certainly lag the technical, but I'm enjoying the challenge of improving, esp. with macro work. I see the world differently now that I'm more actively photographing it.
I love seeing the great images shared here and appreciate the ability to see what's going on in other places.
Posted by Les Barstow on November 18, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Look at all the Instamatic fans! I still have my Tele-Instamatic somewhere in a box in the house; I got it when I was in high school and got hooked on photography with it while on a school trip to the West (Badlands, Black Hills, Yellowstone & the Tetons, and Craters of the Moon - a summer geology course...).
Cindy - were you at KRL in Rochester? My wife and I use to live there, and of course in Rochester if you live there you've probably worked for Kodak - we both did (in multiple roles...). Just remember for Summer - going up in altitude is like going North!
Posted by Cindy Bell on November 18, 2007 at 6:13 PM
Les,
Yes, I was at KRL on Lake Ave. What years were you in Rochester / at Kodak?!! I was just back there in July, in time to see the prep work for the implosion on a couple of the buildings. Weird.

Hi Cindy!
Welcome to the RMNP forum.
Posted by Bert Fukuda on November 19, 2007 at 11:30 PM
Aloha everyone,
I've been hanging around this site for awhile but thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm not really from anywhere but call Texas home. Grew up a military brat so I traveled quite a bit as a kid, just too bad I wasn't into photography back then.
Anyway, I'm a recent transplant from the East Coast, Maryland to be exact. Ended up in Colorado for outdoor lifestyle. The wife and I became addicted to snowboarding a few years back and were flying out here at least twice a season. Came to a point in our life where we were either going to move or settle in Md. for the long haul. Obviously, Colorado won out. AND we couldn't be happier with our decision.
I think I'm in the minority here as I'm a infant in regards to photography. I bought my first dSLR Xmas 2005 and have been in love with photography ever since. One of the biggest draws to photography for me is the constant learning, the number of ways to improve both technically and creatively. That's why I like this forum so much. Everyone shares the love of photography.
Mahalo,
Bert
Posted by Les Barstow on November 20, 2007 at 11:57 PM
Cindy - I was at the Park for a short time in '91, and then did computer phone support (3-HELP) for a few years in '93-'95. My wife had a more extensive set of tours. Neither of us anything on the "high end" of research.
Welcome, Bert. I think there are a lot of different levels of interest here, and if you're in to the creative/technical learning of photography, you've landed in the right place!

Hello everyone. My name is Jim Caffrey, and I live in Jemez Springs, NM. I've been a photographer of sorts for over thirty-five years. I have become more serious over the last ten years, and I thought it was time I joined all the fun.
Hello everyone,
I have decided to pay my dues and join the site. I'm a native to Colorado and grew up in Elizabeth, CO and now live in Castle Rock, CO. I first became interested in photography about 30 years ago, on a family trip to Oregon. I started out using my fathers old Kodak Retina 1A. He tought me how to use a light meter and set the aperature and shutter speed, and at the age of 20 I bought my first camera a Canon AE-1. I have since graduated to a Canon XTi. I came across this site in a article in popular photography and decide to check it out. It has been a great inspiration to improve my photographic skills and I'm looking forward to getting some feed back.

Howdy again,
I was one of the first to post in this current thread an eon ago and then decided to drop off the planet. I thought I would try a comeback which I felt required a new post. I've paid my dues and I'm really looking forward to posting in the image critique forums, I've found the critiques well worth the price of admission. This is just a hobby for me that I'm hoping to improve upon, and I would like to thank you all in advance for your help.
Hi, my name is Debbie Hernandez. I am a new member, living in Alamogordo, New Mexico. But I was born and raised in Colorado and still call it home after many years away. I have been reading the forum for several months and decided to start the new year off right with a membership. I love hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, horseback riding and of course, Photography. My passion is wildlife, especially elk. We have Orxy down here in the desert so they are a close second to the elk. My husband and I discovered RMNP this fall and fell in love. We are planning on getting up there as often as work and life permit.

Hello Jim, Michael, Jason, and Debbie!
Welcome to the RMNP forum. It’s great to see some New Mexico members.
Hi All! Some of you already know me from PNWNP or NANPA. I just relocated to Avondale, Arizona from Portland, Oregon area. I am really enjoying the sun in Arizona, but we seemed to bring some rain with us. I am told that it has rained here more in the past two months since we moved here than it has in the last two to three years. It should make for a wonderful wildflower spring here in the SW!
I have been shooting since the late 90's when I got my first digital camera for a birthday gift. I became more serious in '04 when I joined NANPA and began showing at galleries in the NW. My focus has been on macro flora, landscapes and photo illustrations. I have a wonderful family who is very supportive of my photography passion. I have two teenage sons and a wonderful husband, as well as many others in my family who all love the outdoors and nature. The past fifteen years I have also been an Accounting/Human Resources Manager for several companies, which has led to needing an escape and photography is my diversion.

Photography has always been a passion of mine , but raising 4 kids and driving a truck for 27 years did not allow much time . No longer driving truck and just moved from Sacramento California to Logan. Utah. Living here has sparked my interest in photography and i actually have time to do it. I have a Canon 20 D with a 17- 40mm f4L on the front . I only do landscape . Hope to upgrade to a canon 5D soon.
You both have some great looking stuff. Looking forward to having you get involved with the group.

Howdy folks (sorry, I'm a former Texan). I live in Placitas, New Mexico, just north of ABQ at the nothern edge of the Sandias. After retiring from doing something else for 30 years, I'm now trying to make photography earn its keep, while keeping it fun. Glad to be here.
I've been lurking for months and I'm really enjoying the photos and I'm learning a lot, so I decided it was time to get a membership. I LOVE this site! I'm a novice and a bit intimidated since the talent on this site is really top-notch, but I'll start some attempts at critiquing and photo posting soon. Thanks everybody for making this place such a wealth of art and information!
Heather, welcome. I too was very intimidated when I joined here which I did recently. Here everyone is so welcoming and very helpful. You can post your work for wonderful critique. Please post and we all can learn from each other. Anyways welcome to this site.... regards, Rajeev
I've been looking at this post for weeks now, so I guess it's time that I respond too. I'm not a member (yet), so hopefully you all don't mind me replying. My name is Justin Peterson and my wife and I, and now are daughter of one year, have been living in Colorado Springs since October of 2004. I love the outdoors...everything about it. Most of all, I love traveling. Growing up, I spent time living in Belgium and Germany and I have lived in Connecticut, Texas, and now Colorado. My passion is photography, and my goal, whether realistic or not, is to pay the bills as a travel/adventure photographer. I am currently a teacher getting a master's in educational leadership.
Justin, you're welcome here whether or not you've payed the membership fee. Glad to make your acquaintance!
The membership gives you the ability to post images more frequently, plus eligibility for the Editor's Picks, plus a PhotoPortfolio.net account, as well as a few other perks. It's a great way to support the site if you find it a valuable resource, which I hope you will.
Welcome! (Also welcome to Heather - seems like your photo post worked over on the topic of the month; good to see you contributing already!)
Hi James! Thanks for responding. I'm from Denver. I tried moving away once, but missed home so much I moved back in less than a year. Ain't Colorado a wonderful place? By the way, I've checked out your website before and your images are beautiful!
Great site and excellent photos posted by all. I am a partime CO resident; full time NJ. Staying in the Telluride region. Colorado is an amazing place.
Look forward to contributing and perhaps meeting up with some of you in the San Juans
Welcome Sal! The San Juan's/Telluride is my favorite part of the state. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time there. Welcome to the forum. It's always nice to get new blood and perspective! Thanks for participating.
Okay, so I have been spying on this forum for months and haven't had the need/guts to post anything....everything here is so good. But I have decided to come out of obscurity and ask for some help as I learn. I live in Castle Rock, Colorado and am a beginner photographer with a basic DSLR, but am willing to learn take comments and criticism and therefore grow. It is my desire to make this a larger part of my life (still in the hobby world) and to explore all of the aspects of participating in this new world. Thank you for all of the help that you have already provided as well as all of the help that is sure to come.
Welcome to the group and dont be shy we dont bite (at least very often). Look forward to seeing your work.

Hello all. My name is Joseph Padia and I've been visiting this site religiously for about a year and just now became an official member. I was born in Fruita, CO and grew up in Loma (before it was cool to live there!) but now live in Frederick. I've always enjoyed being outdoors and my hobbies reflect that. In addition to photography I also bowhunt, flyfish, and tie flies. I have a beautiful, supportive wife and a two year old son. I enjoy wildlife and landscape photography and I'm very slowly building a portfolio. Time, composition, and the digital darkroom are the most challenging aspects of photography for me. I'm so inspired by many of the photos and photographers here.
Hi everyone....I have been a long time lurker of this site and finally got the guts to join all of you wonderful photographers. My home is Kansas but my husband and I visit Colorado frequently. We have friends all up and down the Front Range and frequent the Ouray area often. I have been interested in photography for quite sometime and am not near to the caliber all of you are. I am not a member yet and hope you don't mind me testing the waters. You guys have inspired me alot.
Welcome Joseph and Amanda! Hope to see you both around a lot, and posting some images! Amanda, you've got some amazing flower pics on your site! Great stuff!
I'm new to the board, was sent this way by a member on the Large format photo website. I love photography, traveling, hiking, camping, fishing, and I'm getting into backpacking. Taking my first backpacking trip to Maroon Bells in July!!
I live in Wisconsin, but I love the mountains. Been visiting the west for the past 12 years, and try to make it that way every year. Missed the last two years so I can't wait to get back into the rockies...
Lots of beautiful photos on this site, hope to add some soon.
New here too. I like the outdoors alot and most of my photos are nature focused. We're going to Aspen in a coupla days and hope the weather holds out for a good hike around the Maroon Bells area. I'm located in Parker, CO right now. Been here about 4 years. Native of the OR and WA area. Lots of great photo ops out in the CO region!!!
I too have been lurking here for quite a while, and decided it's finally time to jump in. I live in (and am a native of) Santa Fe, NM; throughout my life I've lived and worked in the majority of western states. I came to photography through working for seven years as a commercial river guide in Idaho and Dinosaur Nat. Mon. I learned gradually by trying to improve the shots I brought back from the rivers. I enjoy hiking and shooting well off the beaten path and in seldom-visited areas. My equipment and computer capabilities leave a bit to be desired, but I do my best with what I have.
Welcome to the RMNP forum. We look forward to your images and posts.

Hello to all I have been lurking around NPN for about a year and finally joined last month.
I am a native to Colorado and currently make Cortez my home. I am married (27 years) with 2 kids (grown). I retired from the Colorado State Patrol in 11/06, and started my own business as a certified financial counselor. Since that still doesn't completely pay the bills yet, I also work as an assistant safety director for a trucking company. I have been an ongoing amatuer photographer since high school, but it has only been in the last couple of years that I have begun to be more intentional about it. I also enjoy horseback riding with my wife.
I spend most of my time lurking around the forum learning from all of the experts! I am from western Montana and spend most of my time right now working or building my house but hope to contribute more photos in years to come as things slow down. I am the Technology Coordinator for a small rural school district as well as the head Wrestling coach. I spend my off time doing woodworking, mountain biking, camping, hiking or anything else that I can do that gets me outside!

I am new to photography. I have shot point and shot cameras for fun most of my life but I even had no idea what aperature was until I bought my firs SLR in February of this year. I have a lot to learn, but I LOVE this more than anything I have ever been involved with. I spend 2-3 days a week shooting and the others trying to learn about processing my images. My favorite is wildlife photography, but other photgraphy interests me as well. I want to do this for a living more than anything else I can think of. Currently I work as a project manager for a large telecom company.
Besides photography, I like to camp, hike, swim, take in culture, play pool and golf. I pretty much enjoy doing all kinds of things. I just love getting outdoors.

Another lurker coming clean....
I am a recovering point-n-shooter who has decided to get serious (again) about photography. Too many years of ho-hum snap shots. Now I work on taking photos with good composition and dream of getting that next great piece of gear that will cure all of my photography ills.
During the day I disguise myself as a research meteorologist and make my home in Longmont, CO.
Please say high to me if you find me in the field. I would love to chat a little while.

Hi folks, my name is Judd Patterson. I grew up in Kansas and would make occasional trips out to the Rockies for some fun hiking and photography. I recently graduated from Kansas State University and now work for the National Park Service way down in South Florida. At heart I'm really a "West of the Mississippi" guy so I hope that my job will eventually bring me home. A nice place like Rocky Mountain National Park sounds about right!
I've had the pleasure of running into a few of the forum contributors in recent years and I look forward to posting some of my own images. Keep up the good work folks!

Hello all. My name is Lee Pattison and I approved this messge.
I live in Albuquerque, NM and work as Executive Director for a non-profit human service organization. I love landscape photography especially while hiking and/or backpacking. My favorite time is usually a solo week-long backpack trip in the summer months (with my Jack Russell) to regoup my mind. Last year it was in the Wheeler Peak Wilderness. I also enjoy the deserts of southern NM and AZ.
Thanks,
Lee

Hello Lee and welcome to the group. It's great to see another photog from New Mexico.

Howdy Lee! Good to see the Land of Enchantment getting more and more representation here! Also welcome to all the other newcomers!

Oops! How embarrasing! I just noticed that I never introduced myself in this thread! Hmmmm......guess I'll have to fix that.
Well, I'm an old hand who hasn't been very active of late.....hoping to change that. Been hanging around here since the CNP days. I'm a former geologist living and working in Los Alamos, NM. Still working for a living but man this day job sure gets in the way of my photography! I'm mainly a landscape shooter---most animals won't hold still long enough for me to get a shot of them! I have one film camera left (Mamiya 7II Rangefinder) though I haven't used it lately. Holding on to it in case I ever want to do star trails or other long-exposure night shots. Got a 5D MII on order--can't wait to get it. I'm also in the process of getting organized and importing photos into Lightroom so I can manage them. My website is embarrassingly out of date but I'm working on revising it.
If you're ever wanting to go shoot in New Mexico and want company or a guide--let me know. I'm always looking for excuses to get outside!
Hello from Whitehall, Montana!!! My name is Nita Latimer - my husband and I just relocated to Montana from Florida after he retired. We have only been here 2 weeks but love the small community and the people. We usually spent the summer somewhere in Montana/Wyoming and are thrilled to finally be living here. I realize it is not the best time, in terms of weather, to move here but "timing is everything!" I enjoy landscape and wildlife photography, anything in the great outdoors. My other passion is flyfishing - these hobbies have introduced me to some of the most beautiful areas in the US. We just purchased some ATV's and are looking forward to exploring the back country as well. Looking forward to participating in this forum in the coming months.

I am a new member, but have been reading this forum for more than a year and have found everyone’s posts and photos to be tremendously helpful.
I got a Pentax K10D for my birthday this year (my first SLR) and have since fallen in love with photography (and picked it up pretty quickly). My dad also just gave me his 1970s Pentax 6x7, so I am thinking about trying out film so I can learn more about the technical aspects of photography.
I am a nonprofit consultant by day and one of the best parts of my job is that I get to travel around Colorado on a regular basis (just in the last few weeks – Steamboat, Telluride, Montrose, Durango, and Grand Junction). I finish graduate school in a month and three days (whose counting?) and will hopefully be a more active member after that. And, as a graduation gift to myself, I am getting two new lenses!

Jetson - Geez you have been around a little bit. Great collection of images from a lot of places.
Sarah - We look forward to seeing more of your images in the future. You definitely live in a an area to get great images.

Its been a while since I last posted here (just over 2 years), so I thought I would reintroduce myself.
I currently work as an Area Land Manager in the Oil and Gas industry, before then I worked in newspapers, freelancing for various Front Range and national newspapers/magazines. I have also done some corporate work. Photography is now just a hobby (mostly).
I mostly use photography as an excuse to take a hike or a trip somewhere. My favorite places are SE Utah, Northern California, and the Oregon coast.

Hi, I'm Doug from Billings, MT. I'm a physician in the specialty of Rheumatology. I like my job, but I'm passionate about photography! I've been fortunate, in the last 13 months to have 5 photos published in magazines, including OP (Favorite Places, April'08), Pop Photo (3rd place, Your Best Shots, 3/08), and Digital Camera (1/08, 5/08, 11/08), and, just this month, have my photography displayed as the feature artist in a local art gallery. I've been lurking around the past 2 months on NPN, and posting images mostly in the ESS gallery.
The Absaroka and Beartooth mountains are a favorite place to shoot, and I haven't even scratched the surface! I love backpacking also, and would love some company for a photo shoot or backpacking trip from any of you in or coming to the area!

Welcome to the group, Doug. My wife and I met in Billings and have spent a lot of time hiking and backpacking in the Beartooths and Absarokas, even returning there to get married in '01. The Beartooth Plateau is my favorite place, period. I'll definitely get in touch next time we head out that way!

Greetings. I've just joined your very fine site. I began formal photography in the USAF in 1962 where the first cameras we used were 8x10 view cameras that dated from WWI and with ortho film. Later we used 4x5 Speed Graphics. In my own 35mm use I bought a Pentax SV, a Leica M2, and Pentax A3000. My first digital was a 4MP Oly E-10. Now I use a Pentax K10D and K20D with some new and old Pentax lenses. I do mostly landscape and wildlife photography and most of that in Yellowstone. So far I have only posted my images on several photography sites and I do have one image in the Pentax Photo Gallery. I look forward to exchanging views with you and of course I'm still learning to make better images. (Copied from General Discussion)

I photograph mostly weddings and portraits, but this is looking like a slow year so am tying to branch out and do more personal work while I have the time.
I have always been interested in landscape photography, but only just came across this forum and am stunned by the work here, its very inspirational.
I like to ski, hike, camp, 4x4 and explore new places and of course photography.

I finally logged in here after some encouragement from Brent Doerzman. I will probably lurk a while and enjoy the great posts, but look forward to joining in more down the road.
My wife and I live in Iowa but have been vacationing in northern Colorado all our lives. My Spirit of the Rockies website is basically dedicated to hiking and photography in and around Rocky Mountain National Park. Hiking and landscape photography are at the top of my list of passions.
I have been reading this forum for several months and finally have decided to become an honest member. I have been very impressed by what I've seen here and really enjoy the style of comments and critiques.
We have been residents of Colorado for over 30 years (almost makes us natives), but I have only recently gotten seriously into photography. I've taken pictures all my life, but only now am beginning to pay attention to some of the finer points. I am still very much an amateur.

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking here for about a year, and finally decided to join because I would like to improve my photography, and network with professionals as well as amateurs. I just now joined, and am waiting for my ID...then I will post my first image.
This seems like a fantastic site. I hope I can fit in with the caliber of amazing photographers here. I'm mostly into landscape photography, and sometimes wildlife. Photography is my passion; it's my therapy to get me away from the frustrations of life. To me, there is nothing better than to spend time in nature--the mountains, especially--and just get away from it all and take home images I have captured as memories of my trip. I became serious about photography in the summer of 2006, and have since been blessed enough to have sold quite a few of my images; but I would like to expand my opportunities and continue learning my craft.
A little bit about me: I work as a nurse in an Alzheimer's facility, live in Englewood, Colorado. I have a strong faith in God, and consider my passion for photography a gift from Him. My hobbies include photography, reading, singing and being outdoors. I have a great sense of humor.
Well, enough about me for now. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and learning more about photography, and hopefully, as an amateur, I can give as well!
Darren - I do some wedding work too. I look forward to seeing some of your landscape and professional work sometime soon.
Mike - We look forward to seeing your work. And I welcome you to the community in spite of being friends with Brent D (only kidding - he is really something though!).
Joe - I looked over your site and you have some very nice work. Look forward to seeing more on the forum.
Kelly - Nice to have you onboard. Always great to get the lurkers to come out. As I said before we dont bite too bad. Look forward to seeing more of your work soon too.
To all this is a really great community of photographers. As you know the talent goes from new growing talent to established published professionals. All are welcome. It is a vibrant group that always has a lot of fun, works on getting better together and quite often hook up in the field for trips/hikes etc.
Hi everybody I'm an avid photographer, I like wildlife, scenic, macro and action photography. I am a Senior in high school, my favorite things to do are hiking, motorcycle riding, river rafting, Jeeping and looking for those eloosive shedd deer and elk antlers. I started with a disposable Camera three years ago and now I have a DSLR which is great. I have won ribbons in San Juan Photography Show and won best in show and 13 other ribbons this last September. and I sold my first photo in Febuary. I was a lurker for a year before deciding to get talking and showing pictures on here. I think Photography isn't just a hobby it's a learning experience not just about nature, but about ourselves. Whoa too deep there. Thanks to RichieV for keeping this great forum working. cheers to you
Hi - wanted to say hello to everyone. I joined up earlier this week at the invitation of member Rajeev Thomas (thanks Rajeev). You have some great photographers here, so I'm sure there's a huge amount of great stuff to learn.
My wife and I moved to Boulder a couple of years ago from the UK (she's Australian, I'm English) and have been inspired by what we've seen. We're keen explorers of the state and region, always with camera in hand.
Wow we've added quite a bunch of new members! A very talented bunch I might add! Good to see you all here!

Hello everybody,
I just recently joined NPN and then found out about this regional group and thought I would start participating in that as well. I must start off my saying how much I have enjoyed NPN/RMNP so far, there is such a wide range of extremely talented outdoor nature photographers here and getting ones own work critiqued and commented on by such talented photographers has been a real joy in deed. Seeing all the outstanding work created by others on this site has been a real inspiration. I just recently moved to Lehi Utah from Springfield Oregon and now look forward to photographing this part of the country that I never got to visit to much before. I enjoyed photographing the Pacific NW for last 8 years, but see a lot of opportunities here and in the Southwest I can't wait to photograph. I use to shoot MF for most of my film days and started shooting digital about 4 years ago. I primarily shoot landscape and closeup nature images as you can see from my portfolio and look forward to maybe meeting some members from NPN/RMNP in future.
I've primarily lurked (occasionally commented) in the Earth, Sea, Sky gallery for a few years now. In that time I've only posted one photo, but will commit to at least doubling that (so, at least, 2 or 3 more in the next year ). I've found a lot of inspiration here, so thank you, all -- and hope to contribute more to that even though I'm an amateur.
I live in Utah County, UT and spend a lot of time in the mountains of the Wasatch Front (hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc). I also love canyoneering and have spent a lot of time in Southern Utah (not enough, though) and I think the wild solitude, beauty, and balance of it is intoxicating.
I love fine art photography and find nature the most dynamic and beautiful subject possible.
Anyway, I look forward to participating more here.
Been a Long Time lurker and today just thought it was time to introduce myself and pay my respects. I stop by daily to see if Todd C, Eric S, Jack B or Stan R have submitted anything new; these guys are my four favs but many others here showing off amazing stuff. It seems the submitted stuff is getting better and better, so I thought it was time to jump in the game too.
I'm a mountain landscape guy that has picked up a lot of inspiration from Jack B. I love working for the shot although it seems to be getting tougher and tougher each year!
Hi Folks, I want to say thank you for this wonderful site.
I’m a crusty old mountain biking camper that always wanted to take pictures of the places I bike, like Crested Butte, Fruita, etc. Last fall I bought my first SLR, a Rebel XSi 18-55mm kit, two weeks before a road trip to Colorado.
Wanting to shoot fall colors and having no idea of where to find the goods I googled and found
http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/bbs.cgi?a=vm&mr=34059&CGISESSID=a5a093246ff23047ddb7b6d40224a360&u=17470
This helped a lot and was just what I was looking for. I am eternally grateful.
I’ve been both humbled and inspired by the talent here.
Yes, we have quite a collection of talented photographers. But what makes this group really great is that everyone can participate, regardless of skill level. Everyone here is willing to share and learn.
Hi everyone, I've been lurking for quite a while and am proud to say that I've finally taken the plunge and am now a proud NPN member! I can't wait to start posting and receiving advice, I can honestly say that I've learned more about bettering my photography from reading the comments and critiques on this site than form any other source. Keep up the great work everyone!
Hello everyone, I just joined the site after hearing about it from Jack Garret. I've accompanied Jack on few of his more recent trips. I love the mountains, that's why I moved out here recently, and take any opportunity I can to shoot in them. I'm 24, self-taught, and while I consider myself quite knowledgeable I'm always looking to learn more about photography. I shoot a Nikon D200 while holding out for the arrival of D700x. I have my own website at http://www.shoot2capture.com and a twitter account at http://twitter.com/JasonJHatfield. I look forward to seeing everyone's images and sharing my own.

Hi folks,
I've been lurking on this forum on and off for a few months. There are a few individuals in the area that had mentioned this group to me: Stephen Trainor, Bill Speaks and Erik Stensland. Erik (met him here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bippity/3871218584/) and Bill (met him here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bippity/3931464275/) are folks I've run into while out shooting. Stephen is a Flickr contact and fellow Boulderite. I plan to post up some images soon to ask for critiques. I'm always looking to improve and there appears to be plenty of talent and expertise on this forum.
Cheers,

My name is Dean Sauskojus. Nice to meet you all. My last name is Lithuanian. Its pronounced like the big trees in California, Sequoia. Only a sus at the beginning and an us at the end. I have been shooting 4x5 for some time now, mostly of Yellowstone National Park since its close to home. I have also made many trips into the Montana wilderness with my 4x5 which I can't do any more because of the tremendous weight, which has taken a toll on my health. I tried my sons Canon 30d for awhile before I purchased a Canon 5d mark 2 this spring. Both formats have their pluses and minuses. There is a big learning curve with digital but my son is a great backup since he is a computer scientist. Thank God for that. If you get a chance stop by my blog or my website. I'm not trying to sell you anything, just would appreciate any comments or advice to make things look even better. If I can help anyone with a photography question, or a question about the area where I live, (Bozeman, MT) please don't hesitate to ask.

I am primarily an avian photographer but I like to photograph animals, landscapes and flora too. I like to hike, camp and generally spend great quality time out enjoying nature away from work.
Hope to participate in the RMNP forum when life settles down a little.

Just connecting here to hoping to meet some folks that may want to get together and share some of the skills that nature photography requires. Have been a NANPA member for a while now and cannot seem to get a Denver/front range, CO group together. Anyone interested in a meet up or organizing an event? I don't see anything upcoming on the calendar. feel free to email me or catch me on twitter @spryphotos

I finally signed up for the forums, and I would like to thank everyone who posted fall foliage updates - they were all very helpful. I will try to do my part from here on out :) We currently live in Longmont, CO and have been exploring this wonderful state for the last few years. We are originally from Florida, and very happy to be out here in the mountains!
Hope to see everyone soon!

Hi All!!
I'm very much an amateur 35mm photographer, a complete novice to the world of digital photography (just purchased my first DSLR last week...a used Canon 20D) and a semi-professional lurker I've participated in this forum in the past and I'm returning with new interest due to my new toy! I'm really excited to see what I can accomplish in the "digital world". Better late than never, I know... I live in the mountains just southwest of Denver. Photography, regardless of the medium or the fact of what an amateur I am, really helps me to renew my appreciation for the beauty all around me, keeps me 'in the moment" and serves as a great reminder that there's always more than one way of looking at things. I can't help but to see the world in a different way, especially when I find myself constantly looking for or setting up a shot, even when my camera is nowhere nearby! Anyhow, I'm glad to have "the bug" again and I look forward to learning all I can here (and maybe one day having something to offer newbies newer than I!!).
Lia - Looking forward to seeing your avian shots. Welcome.
Brandon - Welcome. Looking for some trouble from you since I already know your brother.
Mike - Nice to have you onboard. We usually have an annual shindig in January where we all get together and try to have a few trips during the year. I will be posting a thread for the shindig today.
Rod - Welcome to the forum. Look forward to meeting you on the trail.
Dana - Looking forward to seeing your work as you grow with your new camera. Have fun.
Welcome all.

I've been sponging information off this board for a couple years now and after careful scrutiny of dollars spent versus value recieved it occured to me that in that short time I've gained far more useful information that the past 15 years of subscribing to Outdoor Photographer. Decided to pony up the bucks and join.
If you count the first cheesy job I had in the industry shooting church directory family pics on half frame Ektachrome (yikes) I spent about 20 years in the photo biz in Denver including 10 years managing Camren Photo Resources. 10 years ago I gave up my dream job and stepped into corporate America cause I don't wanna have to eat Alpo and Top Ramen in my retirement years. Now I make a buck working as a financial advisor at a mutual fund company in Colorado Springs. I still take 3 or 4 shooting trips every year so if you need a co-pilot and navigator sometime call me.

Hi All- I have been lurking for several years on the forum thanks to Tony Litschewski and decided it was time to join up. Originally from Wisconsin, I have lived the past 11 years in Summit County with the Gore Range in my backyard. If you ever want to know what is going on up here in regards to flowers, fall color or snow, shoot me a line. I have met Rene on several occasions and have shot with Eric Stensland, Tony Litschewski, Paul Beiser, Rod Chandler and Dave Bartlett. I am retired so I have time to devote to Photography as well as Jeeping and downhill skiing. I feel that we live in the perfect spot with so many great places that can be accessed to shoot within a day's drive.
Converted from film to digital about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back. Currently use a 5DMKII and slowing acquiring the right lenses for the situation. Looking forward to meeting the faces that go with the names on the forum.

Hi all. I found out about the forums by happening to meet Morris and Tim(?) a couple Saturdays ago at Castlewood Canyon. I was taking the opportunity to try out my new Canon 7D I just upgraded to from my old Canon 20D.
I've been self-teaching for the past few years and look forward to helpful critiques and general learning from what looks to be a helpful community of fellow photographers.
I own and operate Yellow Wood Guiding, which offers private customized Photo Safaris, larger Workshops, as well as Wildlife, Nature, Flower, and Customized Safaris in Rocky Mountain National Park. I really love teaching folks photography, and ways to improve technique out in the field.
My passions for photography stretch across the nature spectrum from wildlife, landscapes, and macro. I also study wildlife biology of the Rocky Mountain ecosystems, dabble a bit in history, and in general try to learn as many cool facts to teach my clients.
I live in Estes and have been friends with Erik Stensland for a few years and he encouraged me to take a look at the site.
Happy Shooting,

Well I have been lurking around here for a few weeks now so I should probably go ahead and introduce myself.
I am a journalism student at CSU. I have been in Colorado almost my entire life, I was in the Springs for 7 years and Fort Collins the last 10 years. I have been doing photography for the last 3 years or so. I enjoy doing pretty much anything in the outdoors, whether its hiking, backpacking, camping or anything else like that.
Im not fancy enough to have my own website yet but I do have an account on flicker, if you care to take a look at my pictures you can do so here http://www.flickr.com/photos/nkeen/ Or if you are on facebook you can become a fan of my photography, just search "keen studios photography"

I am in the learning mode and almost too old to be crawling arond in the dirt.It not hard getting down but the getting up is time consuming.I have all Nikon equip(4004,N90S,D90:three 2.8D zooms,50mm1.4) I really would like some advise on post-processing.My trial Capture NX2 is about to run out.I'm not a pro and don't think I need to invest in PS?

New member here. From the Denver burbs (Wheat Ridge) and the foot of Kenosha in the summer. Love nature photography and regardless of what I set out to photograph if there are birds around, I forget the chosen subject of the day. I shoot with a Canon 50 D and now have a Canon G11 that is always with me.
Retired after 30 years in Organizational Development, and building and managing all forms of electronic service delivery, TV, Internet, and intranets. Glad that is over!
We love to travel and do so several times a year but rarely out of the USA. Too much to see and do here and would rather support our economy.
Also, grand landscapes are not my passion but intimate, abstracts and macro botanicals are like magnets for me and my lens. So, I am having fun and would love to meet some of you wonderful photographers.

I am a new member here and pretty new to photography as well (in DSLR) - used to shoot with a point and shoot earlier and graduated to a DSLR recently. New to Colorado area as well. I love Nature photography and whenever get a chance try to visit the National Parks and natural areas around.
Love to see birds and wild life as well ..
Looking forward to improve my techniques and learn a lot from the experienced photographers in the forum.
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
I'm currently living in Oregon, however, I used to live in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona. I work as a Fire/Aircraft Dispatcher for the USFS during fire seasons and am an older Geology student during the "off season". (Finally able to return to college). My summer job has me traveling throughout the US with several months spent in the great state of Alaska - talk about photo ops!!
Although I'm primarily a nature photographer, I also shoot powwows, sports, travel, car shows, outdoor recreation (rafting, kayaks, mountain climbing etc). I have a special interest in exploring more "artistic" images - probably due to another hobby - painting. As for other interests: backpacking, fire lookouts, camping, car shows, travel, college football/basketball, rockhound, whitewater rafting, learning to kayak, and golf. I'm also an art collector and have a fairly large collection of Native American art, Navajo rugs, and Alaska Native Art.
I am hoping to move back to Colorado to work in the petroleum geology field, and look forward to spending more time in the Rocky Mountain region and the southwest. I would love to meet up with others on the forum, and hope to take some workshops this year! I am "addicted" to Yellowstone NP - but also enjoy many of the other National Parks and Monuments, especially those with great geology like Bryce, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, etc.
If anyone makes it out to the Pacific NW - feel free to give me a shout. I live on the "dry side" near Bend, Oregon and have a lot of access to some outstanding photo ops.

Welcome, Marcy. It's always nice to see another geologist in the group.
I hope you can land a job in Denver, rather than Houston.

Thanks everyone.
This is interesting Marcy - I was in Grants Pass, Oregon and relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado.

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome!
Soubhik, I lived in GP until I was 8, then we moved when my Dad got transferred. I still have lots of family living in Grants Pass - beautiful area! Funnily enough, I used to live in Fort Collins, too!
Bill - LOL! I used to live in west Texas (south of San Angelo) and worked for "The Western Company" (oilfield service company) - Texas is a nice state, but I much prefer Colorado. I worked as a Field Tech for Halliburton and Dowell out of Commerce City, CO. Traveled all over CO and WY on jobs. Loved it!
This is a great forum and I enjoy reading the various posts - I've learned a lot and have visited most of your websites. Gorgeous work!
Hi everyone. New on here, but have lurked for a few months. I just moved to the Denver area two weeks ago from Omaha. Obviously much more photo ops here, I'm very excited. I've been fortunate the last couple of years traveling some for work and have taken every bit of vacation I have on top of that to wander the American west. It's awesome to have much more at my finger tips now. This is a great site with lots of talented people, hope to contribute some things in the future.

Hello Everybody,
My interests in photography are mainly wildlife and landscape photography. I have been registered a month or so now and have been reading posts to the forums regularly. I am quite pleased with the gracious advice and professionalism exhibited on the website as a whole. I live in Pueblo with my wife and three boys. We are both pretty busy, but I get out when I can and enjoy it when I do!

Glad we had a chance to talk photography the last time we worked together...
There are a bunch of really great people here.

Hey everyone, I've lurked in RMNP for several years, was an active CSNP member, and post regularly on the "big" boards. We just recently moved to Grand Junction, CO. I have some family here (my aunt & her husband own an orchard & store selling their products), and we've vacationed here for a number of years and have wanted to move for a looong time. We finally got the opportunity and went for it. I'm very excited to be here (finally!) and can't wait for the fall foliage.

Welcome Angela! Good to have you on our forum. Post your shots often! And we can use your expert commentary, too.
Greetings everyone! I live in the mountain/foothills west of Denver. Other than my love of nature photography--especially wildlife & landscape, I enjoy trail running, cooking, boating with my family, camping & hiking & getting the snow shoes out in the winter. My cameras are usually glued to me wherever I go. I have lived in Colorado since 1984. Looking foward to learning & sharing info with everyone.

I don't mean to doubly introduce myself, but I became aware of this thread after my initial posting in the General Forum. Anyway, my name is Aaron Cowan and I currently live in Moscow, Idaho. I briefly scanned through this thread and it doesn't seem like Idaho has much representation (I may be wrong). Since moving to Idaho about five years ago I've become a more serious photographer and avid hiker. I'll do my best to show off the state of Idaho. I look forward to participating in this forum!

Hello there, my name is Chris Corich. Born, raised, and live in St. Louis, but I'm intimately familiar with the drive across Kansas and eastern Colorado to get to my proud mountains. The wife and I are looking to move out west in the next couple years, tending toward more south than north because she's nowhere near the polar bear I am. Mostly take pitchers for fun, only have online presence on Flickr, though I may set up a real site to showcase the more than 4000 photos I took last week chasing fall color (with a morning in Mesa Verde, and a day in Canyonlands to scratch my redrock itch).

As rank amateur photographer I am blown away how great this camera is and I realize that I need to learn a lot to get beyond the auto modes. Hope to learn from you all and to share what little I do know.
Hi, Rod and Mary Simpson from Longmont, CO. Just joined NPN! We have met many of you while photographing Colorado's vast and beautiful landscapes and look forward to meeting many more of you in the months/years to come!
We are new to photography (~2 years) and are completely inflicted with the bug.

From a photography standpoint, my interest began soon after graduating from Baylor when I would backpack and flyfish in Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. My first camera was an Olympus OM-10 with 50mm prime and 28-70 zoom. The photos I took mainly documented these summer-long ventures. Although I did not strive to shoot during the sweet hours of light, I did try for good compositions as opposed to taking snapshots. This interest led to me being a high school year book advisor for a few years where I attempted mainly people and sports photography and the resulting B&W darkroom work.
In early 2009, I thought I would like to put together a calendar of places in northern Arizona for friends and family for Christmas. I upgraded the camera from a P&S to my present Nikon D90 and hit the roads leading to some scenic spots in northern Arizona to get the shots for a 2010 calendar. Along the way, I met Adam Schallau at Hopi Point one snowy afternoon at the Grand Canyon. That conversation led me to join NPN this past April instead of lurking. In essence, I have only been doing landscape photography for the last 18 months and am still learning quite a bit here on NPN. Thank you to all who critique my work and provide help as I try to improve my imaging.
I taught high school sciences for 24 years near Corpus Christi, Texas and in Flagstaff, Arizona. Currently I am a recruiter/head hunter living in Flagstaff, AZ. Beside landscape photography, my past and present interests include backpacking, tennis, fly fishing, hunting, WW kayaking and canoeing while being a life-long bachelor. At the moment, I am finding photography to be the foremost interest of mine.
Currently, I have the Nikon D90, Nikon 18-105, Tokina 12-24, and Nikon 300 f/4 and 1.4TC, and am doing processing with PS Elements 7.

Hey, RMNP! I've been following your threads for a while now so I thought I should introduce myself. I'm a California native, midwest educated (DePauw University) person who landed in Colorado just after college. I began shooting in the Conejos Valley with my inherited 35mm Minolta. I worked on a dude ranch down there so had many opportuities to shoot beautiful Colorado scenery! When I moved up to Denver, I had to get a "real" job so my photography suffered as my time became more limited. My boyfriend at the time (now my husband) bought a digital camera and together we have taken our hobby to a full-blown obsession.
We share our Arvada home with our two furry children, Quincy and Tia (Italian Greyhounds). They enjoy heated blankets and sunbathing!
I now shoot Nikon, my husband shoots Canon, but otherwise we share our passion completely. We like to hike and showshoe and this coming year we hope to backpack to some more remote locations. Colorado has so many beautiful places and we haven't been to many although we are hoping that will change in the next couple of years.
I look forward to learning from you and I hope I can contribute!
My name is Vincent Martinez, I live in Brighton, Colorado. I like to photograph wildlife, specifically my favorite...Mule Deer. I'm a Colorado native. I would like to experiment with Landscape photography more often, but I struggle. I guess I just don't have the eye like many of you here.
I enjoy meeting and shooting with other photographers.

I'm Bob Miller from Scottsdale, AZ. I've been enjoying and learning from NPN since 2004. I have been a full-time portrait photographer since 1983. In 2001 I moved to Arizona and began having more interest in travel and scenic images. I wish I would have started earlier with this branch of photography, looking back at all the great locations that I've been to. I always have more fun with another photographer on roadtrips than shooting alone, so feel free to give me a shout if you want a shooting buddy or advice on Arizona locations.

I've been lurking for a few months after subscribing last November. I'd hoped to finish up a website redesign, but I've had to admit that that's just not going to happen right now. I'm in rural central Utah, north of the Colorado Plateau but south of the Wasatch Range. Moved here for a job teaching high school physics after two years of teaching math in Sedona, AZ. As frustrating as it was to have to leave Sedona, I'm glad to be in (or near) the mountains.
I started photographing in '97 with a Canon (film) Rebel, quickly switched to slides and then Velvia on the recommendation of Galen Rowell's writing. Eventually moved up to Mamiya 645 and then Mamiya 6x7, before plunging into a 5d for convenience. I'm now shooting with a Sony 850, if that makes any difference. If anyone's curious about trying one out, come out for the weekend to Capital Reef or Moab and I'll let you borrow it for a few hours.
Love hiking, love backpacking, love trail running. Hoping to get into some rafting.
Thanks,

Hello!
I discovered photography as a teen by wandering rural Indiana with an old Argus 35mm. Soon I was looking toward design schools, learning darkroom, and working with the Canon F1 / Ftb bodies. But in those same late 70's, I also was introduced to computer programming. It was that fateful day back in 1982 when I went to buy a color enlarger and came back with an Apple ///. I began writing those early computer games and soon signed an independent game developer gig with then start-up Electronic Arts. For nearly 30 years I have made my living as a consultant, studio business owner, and employee in the entertainment software biz - computer, console, children's, mobile, theme parks and now casino gaming.
Throughout I kept some sort of amateur connection with the art of imaging - sometimes with video cameras; sometimes as the photographer for a major theme park website I helped found; and sometimes photographing my 4x4 off-road adventures.
Time has passed and I am getting older. I am now making a renewed commitment to this first passion. I am looking to learn; looking for the critique; and hope to engage in new friendships.
Here's to fun pre-dawn photo shoots standing in the brisk wind or in ice cold streams :)

Welcome to RMNP! I look forward to seeing your photos and hopefully meeting you in person some day.
I am a long time photographer, born and raised in Fort Collins. I enjoy mainly landscape and macro photography. I try to get out backpacking as much as possible, but more frequently get out for sunrise day hikes. Have been a long time lurker here, but know some of the members from other web forums and groups. Looking forward to doing some snowshoeing this winter, and jumping in on some discussions.

I am fairly new to photography, and am looking forward to learning a lot on this site, and enjoying other great images from various people here! Hi, I did some film photography back in my college days (70's) then got out of it. I got my first DSLR a year ago and love it. I am mostly into landscape - don't have the lenses for wildlife. My one exception is wild horses - have been to Sand Wash Basin and would love to go to Wyoming. I am a GIMP user due to finances but I did just get Lightroom so that's a step forward for me.

Welcome Mary! Hope to see more of your work on the forum soon!
Howdy folks, I thought this would be the best place now that the Canadian board is no more.. My name is Jeremy Calow, generally a landscape kinda guy out of Calgary Alberta, spending most of my time in the northern part of the Rockies .
Been taking pictures since my parents got me an old Canonet rangefinder in the early 90's but started focusing and putting more effort in around 2005. I spent a good deal of time here at the NPN before taking a 2 year time out to refocus on everything, and now am back. Hopefully you all dont mind a northerner joining in every so often
Welcome Jeremy! Love the Calgary area. Spent a couple days in Banff & Jasper National Parks last August while on a 14-day road trip on my motorcycle. Need to go back and spend more time there. :)
It's good to be back, and I thought I'd re-introduce myself. I was very excited to have my critique chosen on the Facebook critique of the week. I had an NPN membership up until a couple of years ago, although even then I was pretty much just a lurker. I let it lapse because I was spending all my time launching myself as a freelancer (mostly writing rather than photography), and wasn't really taking advantage of my membership. But I've missed seeing all of the gorgeous photography and reading the excellent advice on this site, and I am really looking forward to being back on the forums with a couple more years' photography experience under my belt. I'm also excited to see the POP gallery here.

While my passion is nature/wildlife photography, my photojournalism, sports, commercial and travel photography helps pay the bills.

Well, I can now truly say that I mostly take pictures within the region of this forum! By day I am a system administrator and sometime programmer, but I am trying to work my way into a more serious position in nature photography.
I have re-focused my photography more into my love of the Colorado Outdoors and Nature in general.
After teaching photographic workshops for 4 years, I have found I am far more comfortable on my own alone out in the field or just casually out with others just sharing in the experience.

Love hiking/exploring/travelling/photography. Especially enjoy exploring Southern Utah. Too many opportunities, too little time.
Love the fraternity CNP (oops RMNP) has provided. Great inspiration.
Arvada, CO.
Arvada, CO
The wife and I moved here on Thanksgiving weekend 2003. We're both born and raised in the Southeast and loved the Appalachians but really wanted to relocate to the Rocky Mtn. region. I'm an Environmental Geologist working in Thornton. Hobbies are landscape and nature photography (duh) travel, hiking, and college football. Probably the only person from the Southeast who doesn't give a rip about NASCAR.

IT Professional born and raised in Indiana with hobbies in photography of all sorts, backpacking, hiking, camping, writing, web design, music, guitar, cooking, craft brewing, wine, and of course basketball.
dallas, texas by way of florida and california - presently contemplating a move to salt lake city, utah or portland, oregon. decisions, decisions...
i'm into photography, hiking, biking, backpacking... just about anything out-of-doors.

Good to meet you all!

Thanks,
Todd
Denver, CO
Beyond photography, I enjoy exploring and enjoying the mountains, biking (preferably road), hiking, skiing and sailboat racing. I've been here a while, but I don't usually don't post unless I have something to say, which is rarely.
In my spare (yeah, right) time I hike, backpack, canyoneer, a poor excuse for an alpine climber (really, if it's more than 5.6 it's not worth doing
I'm also co-janitor of the Earth Sea and Sky forum for anyone who has yet to visit/post there.
Guy
RMNP is still my favorite spot to photograph.
Ray
from a Grand Junction location.
I enjoy photography, hiking, cross country skiing.
I have been at photography as a hobby for decades. I am currently
climbing the learning curve of photoshop. I have two grown sons
that I share the hobby with. I am about to become semiretired and
look forward to more time to pursue the hobby.
South of West Yellowstone, West of Jackson Hole is base camp.
I photograph many places but I love the west.
Black Forest, CO
A forum lurker for the most part. I'm an ex elephant trainer, but the megascatological experience has led me into a real estate career. I do have a 1974 vintage degree in Natural Sciences (Ft. Lewis College in Durango). You can find me packing a Nikon D-70 around the countryside looking for wildlife, landscapes and shots that depict old west history. I have much to learn about photography both artistically and technically. Thanks, everyone!
Broomfield, CO
I have been studying photography for the past 25 years. Have gone on a few outings some time ago. Made the switch to the dark side last year. Love to camp out, fish and do anything outdoors. Going to Alberta Canada in two months, hope to have something worthy of sharing. I love to see everyones work on the site.
This is great!
Well Ok, Howdy!
As cultural outsiders here, we tend to find ourselves looking for solitude in the Tetons or San Juans or Sierras or Whites, but find the Wasatch as beautiful as any place we've been.
Besides landscape photography I enjoy shooting architecture (ancient & modern), people, and pretty much anything that inspires me to be creative with the camera. When I'm not at the 9-5 job or managing my photo business I help run an aviation based search & rescue and disaster relief unit.
It's great to see everyone posting here.
Chuck Peacock
Craig, Colorado
3rd generation CO native, loved CNP but welcome RMNP
Lived a few years in southern AZ and the desert grew on me but I'm a mountain man at heart.
( BTW, I'm with the government - I'm here to help.
(I dream of auto focus
Oh well...
Hope to get out and meet more folks this summer!
Vince Martinez from Brighton, Colorado. I started getting serious with Wildlife Photography about 3 years ago. I hope to make it a full time gig sometime soon

I'm curious what brought you to Tooele. Are you in the military?

I'm Denise Symes of Woodland Park, Colorado, just NW of Colorado Springs. I have two kids who keep me pretty busy, but I get out to hike and take pictures as often as I can.
Nice to read up on some of the names that are new to me!

I am Fred Braun from Fort Collins, Colorado. I took up photography several months ago and my interests are landscape and wildlife. I try to get out once a week when I am not too busy.
My name is Randy Stephens and I joined NPN last week. I enjoy photography, animal tracking/behavior, blues guitar, science and my children. I am glad to be a member and look forward to behaving like a sponge and learning more about photography.
I'm in beautiful Divide, CO enjoying the colorado lifestyle. I love photography, the outdoors (hiking, camping, skiing, anything), computers (programming and building), cooking, and my family.
I'm currently shooting digital 35mm (Canon 20D) and I've jumped into the large format 4x5 realm. I've been shooting since the early 80's and I'm always trying to improve and learning there is plenty of room for improvement! :}
This looks like a great, active forum.

You've got to be kidding. Who in their right mind would want to see pics of us?

Sincerely,
Steve
I enjoy photography (especially with wide angle), backpacking, hiking, a little running and Sharon. Also enjoy a good glass or red New Mexico wine.
To earn a living I am executive director of a nonprofit human service organization that serves homeless, mentally ill, and substance abuse treatment.
I'm an environmentalist who can't stand the current national administration.
Howdy!
I look forward to your pics. Welcome to RMNP!
It's good to be here.
Ciao ;^)
Carol
I am Vinita Morrison. I currently live in Thornton,CO.I registered this Saturday. I have admired every single photo in this place for quite sometime. Though mine are not that good, I hope to learn from you all and become a good photographer in the near future. Me and my family go to RMNP every week. We hike sometimes if my toddler and my 4 month old allows. Anyway, being outdoors with nature makes me happy.
Tim - I did the reverse, giving up girl-chasing for photography. Despite getting only one favorable result for every 50 pictures taken, it was a higher success rate than when asking girls out for a date...
Matt - you've got some great work on your website! Looking forward to seeing you post more of your work!
Gabi
My wife Terri and I have been here in Aurora for about 23 years now. We're transplanted Okies but arrived here via New York. I'm a software developer and she's a property mgr. We took up photography about 9 months ago because we wanted some eagle snap shots over at Cherry Creek. She does floral and a little bit of macro and I do avian but will probably be trying to expand to other genres. Having to have a bird present to press the shutter gets frustrating at times.
We've no interest in selling images. This is strictly Open Source for us. We are very interested in learning from the folks out here though. Looking forward to getting to know you.
And photography.
Welcome to RMNP.
RichieV
Welcome!
Cindy - were you at KRL in Rochester? My wife and I use to live there, and of course in Rochester if you live there you've probably worked for Kodak - we both did (in multiple roles...). Just remember for Summer - going up in altitude is like going North!
Yes, I was at KRL on Lake Ave. What years were you in Rochester / at Kodak?!! I was just back there in July, in time to see the prep work for the implosion on a couple of the buildings. Weird.
Welcome to the RMNP forum.
Mahalo,
Bert
Welcome, Bert. I think there are a lot of different levels of interest here, and if you're in to the creative/technical learning of photography, you've landed in the right place!

Welcome to the RMNP forum. It’s great to see some New Mexico members.
Denver, Co / Northampton, England.
I'm a Colorado native now living in England. I enjoy hiking, reading, and model airplanes. Very new to photography.

I am not a professional photographer. I just love being out there when I am not working and capture the moments as best as I can. Looking forward to learn from all of you.
Sincerely,
Rajeev Thomas
My folks and some friends live in Colorado so I'm occasionly in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Keystone. A couple of weeks out of the year is not enough for me I tell you that.

Heather Nilson
The membership gives you the ability to post images more frequently, plus eligibility for the Editor's Picks, plus a PhotoPortfolio.net account, as well as a few other perks. It's a great way to support the site if you find it a valuable resource, which I hope you will.
Welcome! (Also welcome to Heather - seems like your photo post worked over on the topic of the month; good to see you contributing already!)
Where you all from?
Great site and excellent photos posted by all. I am a partime CO resident; full time NJ. Staying in the Telluride region. Colorado is an amazing place.
Look forward to contributing and perhaps meeting up with some of you in the San Juans

Ciao,
Kevin

Pleased to make everyone's acquaintance!

Welcome to the RMNP forum. We look forward to your images and posts.
Ted.
Looking forward to seeing your work!
Besides photography, I like to camp, hike, swim, take in culture, play pool and golf. I pretty much enjoy doing all kinds of things. I just love getting outdoors.
Welcome to the RMNP forum. We look forward to your posts and images.
I've had the pleasure of running into a few of the forum contributors in recent years and I look forward to posting some of my own images. Keep up the good work folks!
Thanks,
Lee
Well, I'm an old hand who hasn't been very active of late.....hoping to change that. Been hanging around here since the CNP days. I'm a former geologist living and working in Los Alamos, NM. Still working for a living but man this day job sure gets in the way of my photography!
If you're ever wanting to go shoot in New Mexico and want company or a guide--let me know. I'm always looking for excuses to get outside!
Nita
Great to have you on-board.
…and a special welcome to Phillip Noll!

Thanks
Ben
Angela
The Absaroka and Beartooth mountains are a favorite place to shoot, and I haven't even scratched the surface! I love backpacking also, and would love some company for a photo shoot or backpacking trip from any of you in or coming to the area!
Looking forward to seeing all the nice images everyones posting.
I've enjoyed your work on FM.
My wife and I live in Iowa but have been vacationing in northern Colorado all our lives. My Spirit of the Rockies website is basically dedicated to hiking and photography in and around Rocky Mountain National Park. Hiking and landscape photography are at the top of my list of passions.
We have been residents of Colorado for over 30 years (almost makes us natives), but I have only recently gotten seriously into photography. I've taken pictures all my life, but only now am beginning to pay attention to some of the finer points. I am still very much an amateur.
Blessings,
Kelly
Again, welcome to the community.

My wife and I moved to Boulder a couple of years ago from the UK (she's Australian, I'm English) and have been inspired by what we've seen. We're keen explorers of the state and region, always with camera in hand.
Am looking forward to participating in the forum.
Welcome to the forum. We look forward to your posts and images.
I've primarily lurked (occasionally commented) in the Earth, Sea, Sky gallery for a few years now. In that time I've only posted one photo, but will commit to at least doubling that (so, at least, 2 or 3 more in the next year
I live in Utah County, UT and spend a lot of time in the mountains of the Wasatch Front (hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc).
Keith

Cheers, and thanks again!!!
Richard
Yes, we have quite a collection of talented photographers. But what makes this group really great is that everyone can participate, regardless of skill level. Everyone here is willing to share and learn.
We look forward to your posts and images!

Cheers,
Jeff

Best Regards, Dean
Moved from Florida to Utah, so I am back out west where my heart says I belong and after 5 years in FL I was in desparate need of seeing mountains, snow and some fall color.
I am primarily an avian photographer but I like to photograph animals, landscapes and flora too. I like to hike, camp and generally spend great quality time out enjoying nature away from work.
Hope to participate in the RMNP forum when life settles down a little.
My name is Brandon Renner I'm the younger brother of photographer Michael Renner, also I'm a college student at ACC with a Passion for photography, but I'm very much so amatuer photographer. I look foward to talking with you all and hearing your critiques on my pictures in the year ahead.
Looking forward to meeting some of you.
Rod Simpson here! My wife Mary and I have met some of you out and about on the trail, and we have enjoyed everyone's company immensely.
Rod
I'm very much an amateur 35mm photographer, a complete novice to the world of digital photography (just purchased my first DSLR last week...a used Canon 20D) and a semi-professional lurker

Converted from film to digital about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back. Currently use a 5DMKII and slowing acquiring the right lenses for the situation. Looking forward to meeting the faces that go with the names on the forum.

Thanks,
Soubhik

I hope you can land a job in Denver, rather than Houston.
This is interesting Marcy - I was in Grants Pass, Oregon and relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado.

We are new to photography (~2 years) and are completely inflicted with the bug.
Rod Simpson - Master's in Software Engineering, Bachelor's in Fine Art, enjoy playing the guitar, mountain biking, and photography. http://www.rodsimpson.com
Mary Simpson - Master's in Software Engineering, ex-NCAA swimmer, web app programming, just getting into food photography, absolutely nuts about my husband, the Great Outdoors and our 2 dogs, Moab and Rio.
Look forward to seeing your work and participation here in the near future.

@Anne - Welcome to the forum. Too funny that you and your husband cant share lenses. Very funny!! I look forward to seeing more of your work.
To both of you (and all) please join us for our annual 'shindig' party at Qube Visual on Jan 29.

Things happen in crazy ways. I have not looked at this thread in a year and for some strange reason clicked on it today. I too, am a portrait photographer in Texas who started my studio in 1983 and am slowly gettting more and more into landscape because I enjoy it.

Best,

I am a long time photographer, born and raised in Fort Collins. I enjoy mainly landscape and macro photography. I try to get out backpacking as much as possible, but more frequently get out for sunrise day hikes. Have been a long time lurker here, but know some of the members from other web forums and groups. Looking forward to doing some snowshoeing this winter, and jumping in on some discussions.

Welcome to RMNP!
I enjoy hiking, photography, music, and am getting in to flight. It is a very fun mix of activities.
I am fairly new to photography, and am looking forward to learning a lot on this site, and enjoying other great images from various people here! Erik Stensland was one of a few who recommended I join NPN, and I am glad I took him up on it. This place also seems a bit more friendly than other sites that host a mass of people's images...
Welcome to the site! We hope you can become a full-member sometime soon.
p.s. If you haven't seen it already, we have a new membership level which allows you to join one regional group (such as RMNP) for only $19.00!
I've been following this website for a few years, and finally got around to joining. I live in Thornton, CO... and am interested in getting to know some other photographers in the area... I've been into photography on and off sinse the 70's.. started with film, then migrated to digital. I'm into Nikon gear , for better or worse. I'm also into hiking, fishing and golf when I can get away from work...
Been taking pictures since my parents got me an old Canonet rangefinder in the early 90's but started focusing and putting more effort in around 2005. I started off as a Nature and Wildlife photographer while living over 18 years in Alaska (Anchorage area). While it is still my passion, I expanded my portfolio into the adventure sports and travel lifestyle arenas too - never giving up my passion for nature photographer.
I also teach photo workshops for Rocky Mountain School of Photography as well as on my own with DeYoung Outdoor Photography Workshops.
I just joined this group this past week and looking forward to participating
On behalf of myself and the RMNP Moderator Team, I'd like to welcome you to the group! We look forward to your participation in the forum, it's great to have you here.
My passion is getting out to shoot landscape/nature - I really love exploring out of the way places. I've been getting out alot in southern AZ since moving here and think the area has great potential.
Look forward to sharing and getting to know folks here!

I enjoy landscape photography (both large scale and intimate). Also into mountain biking and back packing.

I am retired and love to wander the American West and find new photos.
Welcome, Stan!
We just got a little place in Sedona for part of the winter, so now I guess I can be a RMNP member too.
Can't wait for the snow on the red rocks !
Who else here is near Sedona?
Good light to all !
