Male Linnet
Taken at Dawlish Warren in Devon. Early morning light was fantastic. A lot of these at the moment - this is the first time I have managed to get a shot of these that I'm happy to post, so that was worth the trip.

Any comments appreciated

Graeme

Beautiful shot; lovely light and background. Sharpness looks good for a 2x. Maybe you could clone over the light patch in the top right, and perhaps also remove the small side twig. If you were feeling really adventurous, you could also try cloning out the small twig in front of the bird`s belly!
Were you in a car/hide, or was this stalked?

Thanks for the comments.

Jeremy, I'm not hugely into over-manipulation and more to the point, not skillful enough
Oh yeah, this was stalked like a true hunter - well, I hid behind a bush and then proceeded to bring out my big white 500mm and tripod and before he knew it, there was a full-on studio setup around him  Seriously, I spent a good few hours trying to get this. I have another image without the twig in front of it's breast, so I'll post that at some stage. Cheers Graeme

How come it didn't scarper on site of camera, that's what they do with me. Very impressive. I might have a taken a little off the right hand side, but then maybe not.

Hi Graeme

Lovely image, composition is spot on and the light is perfect. Good background.

Sharpness does look excellent with the 2x TC, although I see you were effectively shooting wide open at f8. Might be worth stopping down a bit to say f10 or f11 to improve sharpness, and maybe sacrifice the ISO and shutter speed a bit. However this looks sharp as is so I wouldn't be too concerned. Worth the effort to get this image.

cheers
