Here is a short reveiw of Adobe Lightroom from the TPN site. Although not avaiable for Windows some of you Mac users may be intrested in taking a look. I have signed up on the Adobe site to be notified when the Windows beta would be available. If your already using Lightroom's beta for the Mac I'd be intrested in your thoughts and comments.

I've been using it since beta 1 came out in January. It is easy to use and has some great features, but at this point, I just don't get it - for serious work you still have to save a tiff and then open up in Photoshop to finish your processing. I'm not interested in having to use more than one program to process my images, so unless they come up with all the features needed to make this program do it all, the beta 3 will be my last. For folks who do use more than one program to process their images, it will be a great little program, you'll just continue to have those extra steps for you to go through that are really unnecessary...

I've been interesting in trying a beta, but I don't have a Mac.

Tim, you are currently using two programs...Photoshop and Bridge. Did they not design Lightroom to be as integrated with Photoshop as Bridge? I was hoping for Lightroom to be a "pro" version of Bridge.

I don't consider bridge to be another program since it starts up automatically when I launch photoshop, and when I double click on a file in bridge it opens up in photoshop. Lightroom is entirely different and really has no relations to bridge - it is a whole new animal. I just don't want to have to work in one program and then move the file into another program in order to finish processing it. Lightroom will be tweaked so that folks who process a lot of files will be able to do so better then with just bridge, but I only process one file at a time so don't really have any use for batch processing, and when I do, the photoshop batch processor does that quite nicely. IF they add enough good stuff to lightroom it just might be a great stand-alone program, but it is not there yet...

Thanks for the insight Tim. I don't ever see Adobe developing two different raw convertors, so the real thing when it comes to quality is that most likely Lightroom and PS will always be the same. With a single file at a time workflow, I'd imagine that you are right that Lightroom won't be of any use to you. I am interested in seeing the beta when it's available for PC though, just to kick the tires. Or maybe this is a good enough excuse to order a new MacBook Pro!

Sorry it took so long to get to this thread. Thanks Tim for the comments. As I only work on one image at a time I am not sure that Lightroom would be much of an advantage to use. that being said I did sign up for the Windows beta when it becomes available just to kick around and see how it works. On a side note, I was on the Luminous Landscape site today and saw where Michael Reichmann is working on a tutorial for the Mac and Windows versions.
