This must be the most photographed arch in UT, but wanted to hike up and try a light painting attempt. This was my first attempt at light painting, have some changes I will impliment next time I try it, but thought Id share anyway.
Awesome shot, T². Nice of you to share the image with us, but as photographers, I'll bet most of us would love for you to share your technique. So we can steal it next time we're out!
Nice shot. I'm guessing that is the moon in the upper left, but it is so close to the corner I would just crop it. With the light on the clouds and the star right above the arch, this is perfect.
First attempt or 10th - this is impressive! Nice even lighting. I'm with John on cropping or cloning out the moon, but other than that I'm wouldn't change a thing.
Thanks for the kind remarks. This is actually a horz shot cropped, and have struggled with if I should, or should not, leave the planet (venus i think) in. Technical info D2x 12.2meg raw image, cropped to vertical so easy to crop tighter, 30 seconds, f4 Nikkor 17-55 at 23mm f2.8, iso 100. Very little photoshop other than sharpness, minor contrast or color corrections. My son Andrew did the light paint. Several other photographers hung around and did some exposures on their equipment while we lit the arch. Have other ideas we'd like to try, but have to wait till I can find a way back.... sadly we were forced to come home a day early as not only Moab hotels 100% sold out, but so was Grand Jct, Rifle, Parachute, and Glenwood Springs :( :( it was a Sat night, and I had no idea things sold out that bad.
Hotels were sold out locally (Grand Junction) Because this was the week of Juco. Junior College World Series. 12 teams from around the nation and all the followers were in town. Quite the big deal here.
