Both of those cameras are now at least three years old, the 1D in its third model and getting really long in the tooth. I would get a 5d before either one of theose - it is a lot better than the 1Ds, or much better yet, a 1Ds Mark II (I guess that depends on how large your allowance is). Of course, when you go to a fullframe camera you have to get much better lenses, otherwise you will see quite a bit of image quality dropoff out at the edges of the frame, especially with wide angle lenses (I used Zeiss and Leica wide angle lenses with both my 1Ds and 1Ds Mark II - Canon wides are, well, crap). With a crop camera that is not an issue since you are cropping off the bad edges anyway.
Tim,
Thanks for the advice. I think I will get the 1DS Mark II. I guess that will about shoot my allowance for the year!
By the way, you have a great mother in law. I worked with her in the school system and she is a jewell. And.. we are going to be her part time neighbors in about at month. We're building just down the mountain from her.

2 repliesIs the extra money for the Canon 1DS worth it or is the 1D a better value?
Thanks in advance,
