20D, 400mm 5.6, ISO 100, 5.6 @ 1/500, Exmoor

Hi all :wavey:

been v. quiet lately - struggling with trying to fit nature photography in and around my eight month old girl with varying degrees of success!

Have spent what time I have on a pair of nesting Grebes at Stover and will post some pics of them later, but for now here is a Barn Owl in the glorious evening sun from the weekend - long may it continue!

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Welcome back. I know what it's like with a young family and a passion for wildlife photography!!! Looks like nice light, good pose, good composition but perhaps a little soft on my monitor. Very nice though. Never seen one down these parts!! :toast:

Always a pleasure to see,It does look a little soft and would have been inclined to push the ISO up to 200

Hi Mark,
I also can vouch for mixing family and wildlife....its hard work as you know.

Very nice image, nothing in the background but great british weather!!
Give me a shout if your coming back up my way and will can give my barnies a go.

Hi Mark

Glad to hear you are managing some photography alongside your new family commitments.

A nice flight shot, no major nits, you have caught the owl well although maybe the owl is a bit too bright, possibly you could tone it down a bit in PS.

I hardly ever use ISO 100 for nature photography as there is almost no difference in image quality between ISO 100 and 200 with the 20D. I would recommend using ISO 200 as your default setting and have the benefit of some extra shutter speed or stopping down a stop.

cheers

Very nice Mark. Perhaps a bit hot around the head. Not met up with a barn owl when packing a camera yet.
