Hi All

Just posting this to get some feedback on the ID of my big bug.

This is the view from the top which shows the markings more clearly.

Looking again at I feel it probably is a four spotted rather than a broad bodied chaser as suggested by Phil and others in my previous post.

Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

cheers

Sean

p.s. I need a bugs book.....

p.p.s. Canon 5D, 70-200 F4 L + 25mm extension tube, ISO 250, f5.6, 1/50th. tripod. slight crop.

p.p.p.s The white flower splodge under the left wing is annoying, might attempt to clone it out as some point.......

Looks like a Four Spotted to me, as you have mentioned cloning out the oof flower would be better as it does tend to draw the eye a little,

A quick scan of Steve Brook's field guide says this is a four spotted.

Hi Sean.

Definately a Four Spotted Chaser, those wings are marvelous, broad bodied and black tailed skimmers do not have the spot in the middle of the leading edge of the wings, but can often be confused with each other esp. if you don't get a good view, must go hunting these soon, concentrating on the Grebes at the moment.......

The richness of colour you have achieved is outstanding, remove the white blob and it is a stunner... and a classic ID image.

Nice one

Hi Sean,
Another fine result with this species and an excellent complementary image to your previous one. :toast:

PS. I find a good ID book is Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Great Britain and Ireland by Steve Brooks. The illustrations are excellent as are the accompanying descriptions.

Hi Sean
what great clarity of the insect. I do not have a clue to what it is. I agree about cloning out the white spot.

Hello Sean
Wonderfully sharp image with vivid colour. I agree about it being the 4 spotted chaser.
Best wishes
