Jsut processing some older images, and came ocross this one. I like the fresh greens on this shot. I also shot some vertical shots, but this shows the place better I believe.
Tomas, where in the heck do you find scenes like this in the city? Is this Forest Park? It is beautiful. It worked out well that your were able to create depth from front to back with the creek flowing from the falls in landscape. I have a hard time creating a sense of depth in WA shots unless they are in portrait orientation.
Not a bad shot at all, though I've never found that one to be a terribly photogenic waterfall. The perspective I like best is from the top left side, looking downstream. If you get up to the slabby rock below the falls, theres a steep, muddy path that climbs right next to the falls. Not something I'd recommend doing on a wet day though, but a better angle, imo.
I like the filtered light here. The yellowness of the water makes the title seem a little more appropriate. I like the little shoot starting back out of the stump. I'm not sure why, but I have an urge to move the stick in the lower left out of the frame.
I love the way this image emphasizes the exotic colorful world at the banks of the stream, with moss & ferns & the well-placed stump with new growth already rooted in it. To me this is a lot of the "story" of our NW waterfalls---water falls over a cliff much the same anywhere, but the zone beside the stream is distinctive to here. Bright reds (soil and logs) and bright greens (moss and ferns) contrast very nicely.
The picture I linked to is my preferred angle. Pardon the washed out color, I processed that one well before I had my monitor calibrated.
FYI - Anybody thinking of going there soon, Coal Creek is very very seasonal. With all the recent rain, its flowing well right now, but don't expect it to last, its usually bone dry by July.
Bryan is correct this is Coal Creek Falls. And it should be running rather well when there's been significant rain on Cougar Mt. Access to this waterfall is an easy hike of about 3/4 mile from the Newcastle trailhead.
