Great Crested Grebe
The birthday fairy has been very good to me this year and a new pair of chest waders and an Angle finder C was found at the bottom of the bed so up and out at 5 am today to lake Geneva to have a go at water level photography and with the large head of GC Grebes still going thru the motions i decided to have a go at these,As you can see plenty of midges around

This image has a really attractive feel about it and I think the portrait format suits it perfectly.
The backlit midges really add to the atmosphere.

Looks like its raining midges, they give atmosphere although I'd clone out the larger OOF one that's about middle left. Nice colours although the birds a bit blue on my monitor.

Hi Dave
nice picture of the bird and I have to agree with Tim's comments. The bird is a bit blue on my screen as well.

Yes mine too Dave. Very nice image though. The lighting adds a lot.

Already been mentioned about the bird being a bit blue Dave so I wont mention that

Good viewpoint and dof, the midges add to the dynamics of the image and lift it above the ordinary.

Hi Dave

I like the composition and colours, although there does seem to be a bit of a blue tinge to the bird. Maybe due to the lighting conditions but possibly in PS you could lessen the blueness.

For me I am not keen on the midges and I would clone them out

It is not obvious enough to me that they are midges and look more like dust spots than anything so for me they would be gone.

Also maybe needs a very slight CW rotation to level the water surface.

Nits aside, a good shot with good use of the light and the low angle.

cheers

Nice one, good angle.... the cast has been mentioned (unless swiss grebes are a different colour to ours) plus a slight rotation.

I'd stick with the midges, they add summer/heat/buzz to the photo. Colours need a tweak as already said, but it's a shame cos I quite like the blue GCG
