Does anybody know if the Kite Lake Trailhead is open to the public now? Was thinking of camping up there soon.

Thanks
Jody

I know they're saying the fourteeners surrounding it are off-limits until next year, but I'm not sure if that closure encompasses the "campground" there or not. I'd hate to see access to Lake Emma restricted as well. Call the South Park Ranger District to be sure, but I'm pessemistic.

Not sure about the closures I'm afraid, but I found this trailhead report on 14erWorld, posted May 29th:

" Kite Lake road is now open all the way to the lake. You'll need a vehicle with some clearance for the washed out section ~100 yards below the lake."

Hope this helps at least as far as conditions.

Brent, Thanks for the info, I was able to drive upto the TH at the weekend, some folks were camping even though there was some snow around. Kite Lake was still frozen, and people were hiking the 14ers.
