Hi,

Due to a sudden and unexpected change in fortune and circumstances I have decided to put all my equipment up for sale, please email or pm me for a full list and prices. Items include an EOS 20D with lens and Kirk QR plate for £400, a 300mm f4L for £300, and a 400mm f2.8L for £900…

There's loads more and all at good prices…

I will make the occasional visit here and may very well return at some point in the future, I will still be here at the Natural History Museum so will be more than happy to give assistance where I can.

All the best

Phil

Ah Phil mate my heart goes out for you, I'm sure you'll be back. Try and keep a couple of bits to play with.
A sad day for vain damsels and dragons, their finest photographer lays his gear aside.
Best wishes

Tim
PS I hope this isn't a hasty decision Phil.

Hi Phil

I hope all is well and this decision is not due to any serious problems but due to some mega promotion at the NHM  or winning the Lottery

cheers and best wishes

Hi Phil,

Sorry to hear you are going through problematic circumstances. I hope they resolve themselves soon. I wish you the best as I know the feeling of maybe having to sell off equipment and put my passion on hold.

Hi,

Thank you all so very much for your kind messages, it is very overwhelming and I am deeply touched, I won't go into details as it is personal and has hurt me a great deal. This is not a decision that I have taken lightly and I am still clinging to some hope that I can find another way...

I am going to sit on things at least for the weekend and spend some time with my grandson. Then on Monday I will send out a list to all those who have requested one.

Once again thank you all so much for the kind words, hopefully in the not too distant future I will be back out there with a vengance......

All the best

Phil

Hi Phil,
If you can help it at all, don't be too quick to get rid of everything.
You have an obvious talent and it would be a shame to stop it in full flow.

Just remember that, even if you sell everything, no-one can say that you're not a photographer.

Cheers to you,
John

Got to add my thoughts too, i will miss your fantastic posts too if you do decided to throw in the towel, they have always been of the highest quality, It has crossed my mind to pack it in too over the last couple of months due to the loss of my partner(Rosie she did post a few pictures on here), but i would suggest at least keeping some form of photographic equipment, it can be a great source of therapy to get out and click that shutter, all the best. :toast:

Phil, for what its worth. In the last three years I have had two businesses go down the pan, one was reasonably successfull. At the time I thought the world was collapsing around me.I should have sold off my camera gear to help fund my troubles but I decided to keep them, as one of the things I really get enjoyment out of is photography. As I suspect you do to. Well a year later I have just been offered a job much to my surprise and I am just so relieved I didnt get rid of my gear as it would have taken me ages to buy new again. I think you will find six months from now things are totally different to your problems now. I have always enjoyed your critiques and it will be sad to see you leave the forum.

Best wishes to you, Phil - (and to Brian, too).
Reading your critiques, and studying your pictures, has been very helpful, and at times inspiring.

Spending quality time with the grand children is the best tonic I know. You come away knowing what is really important, family and their future. I had my top up yesterday, an afternoon with my 6 month old granddaughter, whilst being harassed by a four year old, did wonders for me and I’m sure it will for you. It was magic.

One thing I have learnt from life, everyone needs an interest outside of their daily routine of life, be it fishing, golf, football or in our case N.H. photography, it keeps us sane. So as a minimum, don’t relinquish your favourite lens/camera set-up, as getting out and about, and using them will give you great comfort, honest.

Re the Rufus Bush Robin. Interesting when you say 5x, I did 3x at the same settings. See you get people thinking, and re-examining their photography.

Don’t be a stranger.

Hi Phil

Like everyone else on the forum I am sorry to hear you have decided, for the time being at least, to give up your photography. I will miss seeing your many 'quality' images (always perfectly processed) and reading your critique - which I have always valued in the short time I have been active on this forum.

I really hope it is not too long before we see your work again!

Best regards

phil,

just logged in to see what was happening on the forum as ive been bogged down with another relocation and lots of work, so no time to post lately......exept in this case.

i was quite surprised to read your post to say the very least. i do hope everything turns out well in the end......

thank you for your kind advice and critique on my images over the last year or so, and thanks for helping me along with my own belief that i was at least getting something right.

i hope you manage to keep your gear......whatever happens.....and if not, well the art will still be in the man for when you buy the next lot.

feel free to drop a line if it helps.
