Hello everyone,
My brother and I are trying to plan a trip to Acadia,NP,ME and the White Mountains of NH next week to photograph the lupines. It would be much appreciated if anyone can let us know if that would be about the peak time for the blooms this year. Thanks for any info you can provide us with.

Ed,

I'm not sure about Maine, but here is a link to a daily update on the Sugar Hill, NH area.

I think you will be hitting it just right next week!

Thanks for the reply, Rich. I am hoping we have it timed right this year. We came away with some nice images last year and hopefully will this year.

Thanks again,
Ed

Ed,

It appears that the Lupines in Sugarhill NH are running a little late. I was there today and the large firld with the wagon wheel was only about 15% in bloom. It almost appears that this large field might not bloom as well as it has in the past couple of years. The rest of the Sugarhill area had some strong beautiful Lupines in bloom, particularly down RT 117 towards Franconia. The peak for the Lupines in the Arcadia area seems to be a little later than Sugarhill on most years but there are many things that can effect this locally. I have found that the best Lupines in the Arcadia area are along Rt 1 north of Ellsworth in the towns of Hancock, Sullivan, and Ashville. If you follow the side streets of Rt 1 towards the ocean you can find some very beautiful stands of Lupines.
I have been to the Aracdia area as late as July 1st and have found strong stands of Lupines.

I was in Aracdia the last two weeks of June last year that the Lupines were in full bloom at that time last year.

Thanks for the info, Jim and Robert. We were in Sugarhill last year and had a great time.

I was lupine in Sugar Hill this weekend. The rain kept the bugs & ticks at a minimum and they provided some nice water droplets on the flowers & leaves. I even have some photos where you can see the rain coming down and the flowers. The Sugar Hill field (wooden wagon wheel) is running late, less than 25% of the flowers are in bloom and most are still short. Further down Rt 117 (fields of St. Matthews Church before Polly's Pancake Parlor, a MUST) there are lots in bloom on both sides of the road. Sat am on the way to Sugar Hill we also saw two bald eagles right on Rt 302 perhaps 3 miles outside Woodsville (one was on the post and the other on a duck's nest in the field, left side, going away from Woodsville). We had a good time and the rain provided nice even light and great water droplets (you can see the flower and sky reflections in the water droplets). We took lots of photos, attached is one macro shot. I'll try to post another overall flower field
shot. The flowers are not peak yet, so if you have been toying with the idea of going -- it's worth it! Lisa

Here is the flower field at St. matthews church in Sugar Hill. The flowers here were further along than the Sugar Hill wagon wheel field.
