Western Rattlesnake
Howdy,

I was lucky to stumble upon this handsome western rattler today at Plains Conservation Center - actually saw him from my truck, approached slowly with a 600 and shot from the ground using a beanbag for support.

The snake is about 3 feet long and pretty thick in the middle. Of course he let me know when I was too close. 24 feet minimum focusing distance seemed about right!

Wow, this is awesome! And the way you were telling me about the snake's little babies crawling up your pantleg while you took this makes it an even more amazing shot!

Nice Dave! You said "I was lucky to stumble upon..." Actually you were lucky NOT to stumble upon him!

My dad stepped OVER one on our front porch three times one night until a dog alerted him to it's presence. He got some extra gray hair that night!

Nice shot.

Wow! What an incredible shot! You're either a lot braver or lot crazier than I am. :toast:

Dave - I really like the low angle and the out of focus areas of this image. Good thing you did not actually stumble across this fellow.

Nice shot Dave !

I love the low angle and clean foreground/background.

Do you have any images that show his "rattle" a little more.

Finding these guys in a clean environment has been a challenge for me.

Congrats. on a job well done.
