Pied Flycatcher 'female'
Just returned from a week in Wales, where disaster struck. The attached is one of only a few sharp images, most images were fuzzy with strange backgrounds (a little like a mirror lens. I have concluded the 'IS' on my 500 is malfunctioning!

Bummer about the IS.
I know many who swear by IS , but frankly I can't recall a situation where I've thought I'd have got the shot had I had IS on my lens. Indeed the only lens I ever had trouble with had IS  But all this is coming from someone who thinks that TD5 Defenders are full of electronic mumbo jumbo.

Your shot is lovely. It has a superb clarity and a great feeling of spring about it.

superb.sharp, colourful and beautifully composed. The soft light fits the scene :toast: :toast: Have a feeling that either Guy Edwardes or someone on this forum suggested switching off IS when using the 500mm on a tripod. I've had some disappointing shots of a sea otter in Mull with my 500mm and 1.4, just not as sharp as I would have expected. Peter

Hi David
a great picture and I like the composition of the bird in the frame. Also I like the foliage.

David,

Sorry to hear of your lens woes, I have always avoided IS, anyway your image.....

IMO this is one of the finest images I have seen posted on this forum, the pose, bg and that superb perch, and of course the icing on the cake is the catch, A superb image in every way.

Hi Dave, a very nice photo of the Pied F. The pose with lifted tail is extraordinaryly good, and likewise is the inclusion of the flowers. :toast: :toast:

What a bore about the IS on your lens.
Great shot though, beautiful composition, pose, bg and all. Could not be better.
